Can somebody explain to me, why on Earth they not allowing to open windows while spending time on quarantine?? WHO, CDC, and other organizations DO recommend to open windows frequently as of one one policies dealing with pandemic. They even made it explicitly clear that it's not allowed to open windows.

Update: So mamy comments haha. Can't read all. Would like to thank one commentator saying that it's an old policy. Consequently I did asked the staff, and they said that it can open the balcony here. No problem. The stickers must be old.

Originally I wrote this post at 3am of night due to inability to breath properly and some anger, sorry haha, can't really tolerate air conditioners and closed windows, but it's ok. It's okay Thailand, I'm on the last days of my quarantine, it's just a little bit drove me nuts haha.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the frustrations of a quarantined individual in Thailand regarding the prohibition of opening windows despite global health recommendations advocating for fresh air. Several commenters share their experiences, noting that some hotels do allow for balcony access, which suggests potential discrepancies in hotel policies. The conversation touches on concerns about safety, potential escapees, and overall quarantine experiences, leading to a mix of humor and serious commentary on the restrictions in place during the pandemic.

Precautions are taken however they believe can be made. People are traveling from all over the world and Thailand has hit 3 waves in a course of a year. I was there for a year and they're slowing opening back up. So for the safety of all, maybe they want to be sure that when you arrive you'll be as protected as can be during quarantine. After that you should be able to open windows and balcony doors as much as you want. I'd just adhere for the time being.

Diazepam did the Job for me Last Month in a Hotel as I got a Panic attack..... Can't drink Booze - Always have a *Plan B* lovely People - My only gripe was that The HOTEL (5 stars with all the lovely Pictures) was not the Outhouse at the Back where the quarantined were) - Bit Naughty and felt fuc*ed over - Took some Diazepam, watched Pornhub and thought - *Well, It is what it is*...... The rest of the Holiday was the best of my life...... Peace and Love to all from a Daft Irishman - 🇮🇪☘🇮🇪

- Believe me, I've just come Back and Going over was absolute Brain damage, but all in (Triplicate) and at the last moment I spent £100 for a 72 hour PCR in order to get on the Plane, and when I re-Read the Documents on the Thai forum they wanted an *RT-PCR....* Which is (in Britain simply a PCR), but enough to cause me a heated discussion at the Airport..... Finally, got to Bangkok and they wanted an RT-PCR and not a PCR - so another £100 for what is the same as a UK PCR..... Hang about Matthew, especially if you suffer from HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE..... In the UK you have to commit a crime to go to jail. It seems people want to pay money to go to jail in Thailand.!!!

There is a difference between trying to avoid infection when more than one person is in a room and a person in quarantine. When a group of people are in a room the WHO's advice is to open windows and increase air circulation. I however have not seen the WHO advising people to open their windows when quarantined. The principle of quarantine is to isolate you and closed windows makes perfect sense. Then again commonsense is in short supply these days.

The American CDC's instructions about quarantine : a proper air ventilation is recommended. Besides it, the fresh air does disperse the virus droplets.
Ron ******************
@Vlad *******
there is a difference between a government approved quarantine facility and home isolation. The CDC quote is for home isolation not a quarantine facility.

Fresh air does not disperse the virus, air flow does. But as you are alone in your hotel room you do not need an open window for air flow as you do not want to disperse the virus but contain it.

In the case of home isolation the CDC recommendation about open windows is aimed at preventing people in a household with a infected person transmitting the disease. Airflow is also an effective way to prevent transmission in a work environment.

Two different concepts for different circumstances.

@Tony ********
then by now you should have known that to argue against Thailand's governmental rules is a waste of time.

I'm not arguing with the Thai government's rules. I'm simply discussing the lack of logic behind it. That's what human beings do.

I would never dream of suppressing someone else's opinion. I would fight to defend your right to express your opinion whatever that opinion is. The article you posted does not say anything about transmission through a large volume of air outside a window it's only concerned with close proximity within rooms. That's why circulation is important and why institutions like schools are advised to open windows so that particles are not trapped within a confined space.

we agree to disagree. Hope your stay here will be enjoyable. Bye

@Ron *****************

@Ron *****************
it makes no sense. There is no scientific reason to close windows while in quarantine. It's crazy. What's going to happen if the window is open? You cough and transmit viruses into the atmosphere and they drift over the rooftops. Sure the WHO doesn't specifically advise opening the window but it doesn't specifically say you shouldn't cut your toenails while in quarantine either or take a dump before 7am. 🙂
Ron ******************
@Tony ********
the idea of quarantine is to isolate you. If you can open your window, why not your door or why not allow to walk around the hotel. If you start were is the end?
Tony *********
@Ron *****************
what? Even prisons have open windows. Where will it end? Are you for real? Maybe if the window is open you might just fly out!
Ron ******************
@Tony ********
what does a prison have to do with quarantine for a virus. The virus is airborne and can escape through a window. Just accept the rules and move on.
Tony *********
@Ron *****************
oh For heaven's sake you need to be within a few feet of someone to transmit the virus. How the hell is a virus going out of a window and travelling in the air across the Bangkok skyline and suddenly target someone on the street below. Transmission doesn't work like that. Educate yourself!

There's this crazy obsession of jumping off balconies, seems like an extra layer of safety. Also the price if amulets have dropped significantly, won't bother u with the details.

Because if you go on the balcony, SARS-Ebola-AIDS radiation might streak across the Bangkok skyline and infect everyone in the whole city!!

Because foreigners appear to love jumping off balconies. There's been a few in past months. So basically, you can't be trusted to do the right thing. Maybe just suck it up if you're desperate enough to travel during a pandemic.

Asq hotel asked me to sign a waiver then opened door to balcony. Simple enough.
Antonino *******
I did the the quarantine one year ago; the advice to don't open is according the government rules; one day, on the beginning of the authorities inspection, the ASQ Hotel management has advised all customers by Line to check the room windows, to be sure they were properly shut.

To spend two weeks in a ASQ Hotel isn't easy, but in the life we meet harder challenges.

I think, depends on who is a hotel manager. Unfortunately, there's lots of Oxford "hight educated" personnel, but their mind and IQ level is... maximum to be a motorbike taxi driver.

Actually it was the same in Australia some of the quarantine hotels, had no balconies or the windows didn’t open.

Hotels own policy. There are many ASQ hotel rooms with balconies which are open.
