That's factually incorrect. You do NOT need to buy a return ticket to get back to the UK after 90 days. This is not what onward ticket mean.

Mine was approved within 48h. I did it 2 weeks ago. There are a lot of bug with the website so you should check the PDF you receive at the end to make sure it's properly filled.

Hmm, you are a high-end tourist with a lot of money, so do a trip that reflects that. Phuket is a must on your list. And also I would consider smaller less crowded island (since you have money), instead of the tourist polluted Samui, etc.
