Ive been living in Phnom Penh since June, prior I was living in Chiang Mai for 2 years. Today I went to make a Thai Tourist Visa in PP..., I had way more then 1k usd on me, but they denied me even after discussing with my thai GF because they need to see a *sign bank statement*.

I dont use my Canadian bank acc anymore, I use Bitcoin for pretty much everything so I cant show them what they want. Went we go back to Thailand im going to make a thai bank acc so I can withdraw BTC to thai bank acc whenever I want but for now I need alternative solution.

Any country (Laos? Malaysia? Vietnam?), that will accept my cash as proof of funds? I already use my 2 land visa exempt entry this year and we travel with 5 dogs so we need to enter Thailand by land (3 of them are too young for flight).

So which embassy should I try? Thx!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their experience of being denied a Thai Tourist Visa in Phnom Penh due to lack of a bank statement, despite having sufficient cash. They ask for suggestions on countries (like Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam) that might accept cash as proof of funds. Comments from other users highlight various options, including opening a bank account in Phnom Penh and applying for a visa in Vientiane, where no proof of funds is needed.

Steve Greir Yeah ofc, I was shock to heard *$65 usd*, my first instinct was that he would charge more come delivery time. Its way more convenient that I can travel by land with my GF because we have 5 dogs but if it doesnt work ill fly and meet her half-way in BKK (were going to CM). p.s: Taxi from Phnom Penh to CM around $450 total, not bad!

. Ok, hope you're ok. Before mine was for non imm o multi. The 'I know someone at the embassy' is an old trick though.

Difference also is that im not in a hurry to leave the country (and he know it) if he fuck me up, my METV expire in june 2018. Most just want to stay in PP a few days so agent have leverage.

I have the receipt with me (but havent pay yet), not that in matter, but that agent didnt seem fishy to me and I have high alert for bullshit.

So u were originally quote 10k baht for a thai tourist visa????? The thai visa is roughly 1.3k baht. I was quote $65 usd instead of original $40, I had $100 in mind so even if he ask for more I dont care I already expect him to pull something like that and I will tip him nicely anyways. I did it in Laos and Malaysia with agent without issue, not all of them are trustworthy tho, I agree!

Its not a random agent, its a townhouse/shop, he live there with his wife and they have children. I dont see him running away and he will be easy to find. Money is not a issue... but I wont pay more then $100 anyways im sure we will settle nicely if we have to.

I did the same years ago when I was green. Got the visa but It cost me 20,000bt, after a quote of less than half that price

Good luck with that by Cambodian agents. They all say they have friends at the , embassy, he's got your passport!

almost no thai consulate accepts cash for proof of funds when getting a tourist visa you're confusing that with the proof of funds when entering the country which has to be in cash..

You can use a bank statement from any country as long as you hit the financial amount required by the consulate.

OR you go to a consulate that doesn't require proof of funds. ;)

There are a few reports, less than 20, in the last months from people telling that they should show proof of money.Lots of people arrive at DMK a day, so to speak of a nightmare is overdone.

Its ok if cash is not enough ill buy a fake onward ticket in the airport, lol :)

Maxim Thibodeau They can ask you 3 things when entering Thailand. 20k cash (In any currency), proof on onward ticket (Any form of ticket out of Thai, bus ticket is the cheapest), Proof of accommodation(Booking.co.m). I did a visa run to Penang and got asked to show 20k at the land border down south in Thailand. Showed 20k and they let me through without any hassle. Just be prepared for worst case scenario then you will not have any problems :-)

Ok, I will bring well over 20k baht in my wallet so should not be a issue?

Im on a METV (1 year) for Cambodia (until june 18, 2018), I can go make a tourist visa for Thailand in Vientiane and come back to Cambodia right? So basically I can have 2 active visa on my passport?
Steve *******
Yes. They're for 2 different countries. You dont activate the SETV until you enter Thailand.

I have a bank acc with ABA, we ask the lady she says if I put money now she wont do it... need to be there for a while.
Robert *******
Easy option is to open bank account in Phnom Penh, put some of the cash on it and job done.
Steve *******
Vientiane Laos, no proof of funds required for an SETV
Steve *******
No proofs required at Vientiane

They asked me nothing. With no agent. Drop off your passport the 1st day and pick up next day. My passport was full of stamp with no problems in Vientiane
