45 days is the official Thai Immigration ‘rule’ but most offices only allow 30 days before. An agent can renew up to 3 months early.

You could consider using an agent to smooth the process

David Chinnery not being pedantic but after getting the single entry Non-Inn 'O' he then applies to extend his permission to stay, for 12 months, based on retirement. He doesn't apply for a visa (even if Thai Immigration call it a visa - it isn't). Definitely not trying to be a smart ar5e but we are using terms like "visa", "retirement extension" and it can confuse people. Simples; get a Non-Imm 'O' visa (based on retirement) in your home country, then apply to extend your permission to stay for 12 months - a "retirement extension".

Simon Adams "for" 12 months. Usually an application is submitted in the last month of the permission to stay, making sure that the 800k has seasoned in a Thai bank account for 2 months - you can't extend a visa, you extend the permission.
