Will my past visa history affect my return to Thailand in late 2023?

Question, would this be an “issue” if I was to return to thailand in either Oct/nov/dec 2023,. I was in thailand on a 60 day TR visa from jan 1st 2023 and did 3 extensions and 2 border bounces, 185 days in TH and left country back to uk on July 4th 2023,. Would imo be getting red flags on my previous history, or would it be safer to return in 2024 ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster inquires about the potential repercussions of their recent visa history when returning to Thailand after a lengthy stay on a Tourist Visa (TR) with extensions and border bounces. Comments suggest that there are no guarantees, as immigration officers make decisions on a case-by-case basis. The consensus is to minimize risk by arriving with the appropriate documentation, including proofs of funds, proof of onward travel, and lodging, and to potentially consider applying for a different visa type, such as a METV, for smoother entry.

Get yourself METV visa and you will be fine.

Highly unlikely to be any issue at all. 'Welcome back to Thailand'. Nothing wrong with being a long term tourist. Bring the three proofs just in case

Why just you don’t apply for the correct visa to stay here, instead of just using tourist and visa exempt, you will probably be asked a few questions upon arrival.

Did quite the same as you and also lots of covid stamps from before. just came back week ago on a metv. Was back home 4 months. Got questioned at airport last week and had to show a ticket out. Still got in.

So I take it you went 60, 30 day extension, border bounce, extension, border bounce, extension. I'm pretty sure you'll be questioned if you come back in October but you have been in the UK for 3 months so you should be ok but I'm only guessing so. At the end of the day do as they say to do and turn up with the 3 requirements and you'll likely be fine

I’ve got a Tm30 address that’s been registered before and intend on getting a retirement o visa this time in TH,.

you cannot use a tm30 registration as you are not in Thailand.

The tm30 is registered when arriving in Thailand and you don't have a Visa/extension to continue it. Even when I return I update my Tm30. In fact just registered in the new system tonight.

If you provide the Tm30 at the same place they can make the argument you are trying to live here on tourist entries.

What I have heard that works is an invitation letter from your G/F, with her ID and house book.

Stating how long you will be with staying with her.

Given your history not sure I'd go that route.

Short of that just book cancelable accommodation do a couple weeks.

If your thinking of retirement, I would get the 90 day non-o and enter on that, no issues.

You are guaranteed 90 days even if you don't do the extension.

There is even a multiple entry non-o based on retirement, good for 1 year. You have to exit every 90 days and can extend to 1 year on any of the entries.

Just some suggestions.

I'm in a similar situation. Was here 4 months late November to March. Spent 3 months back home and then came in again on a 60 day. Done an extension and 1 border run and heading to Malaysia at the end of this 30 days before flying back in. I'm a bit nervous about flying back in but have a flight back to Australia 29 days after I return so I should just cop some questioning hopefully. I miss the good old days when this shit never mattered

just get the retirement visa before you go to Thailand. Why play games with immigration and take a chance? If you show up with a retirement visa you'll have no problems.

I’m secretly hoping the “ magic” 90 day visa exempt will be brought in,. Not building my hopes up tho,.
Brandon ************
@Mike *******
why would they do that? The only people that can get 90 days now are people who live in countries that also give Thai citizens 90 days when they visit which is Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and South Korea.

As soon as Europe and America start letting Thais in for 90 days without a visa, you can get your magical 90 days.

@Mike *******
You are not registered if your out of Thailand, a TM30 when you arrive back registers you
Brown ********
@Mike *******
I'd just ask one of main guys if the TM30 is enough as it always requires to be resubmitted everytime you re enter the country so the one you have from your previous stay will be null and void
Brown ********
@Mike *******
will you be staying in the same place for an extended time period when you plan to arrive?

Admitting to having and living with a Thai girlfriend does not give the impression that your are a tourist
Brown ********
@Mike *******
ok. I'm not sure how you'd prove this to immigration. Might want to ask one of the experts like Todd for this answer
Brown ********
@Mike *******

No one can answer this question because we are not the immigration officer you'll be standing in front of.

The only thing you can do is minimize the odds of something going wrong.

The best thing you could do would be to arrive on a non-immigrant visa.

Barring that you should apply for a tourist visa before traveling to Thailand and you should make sure you have the 3 proofs with you.

1) proof of funds (20,000 baht or equivalent in cash only)

2) proof of leaving Thailand (a plane ticket out of Thailand within 60 days that you'd get on a tourist visa)

3) proof of lodging (hotel reservations for 1-2 weeks minimum)
