Will I face issues entering Thailand again after using multiple visa exemptions?

Hi everyone,

I spent 8 months in Thailand this year on visa exemptions + extensions. I plan on going back in March 2024 on another visa exemption, which will be around 4ish months since I last left Thailand.

Based on everyone's experience, will l encounter any hassles upon entry to BKK Airport? Should I just apply for a Tourist Visa (even though that is not a fool proof plan either)? I have an Australian passport for context.

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on potential immigration hassles entering Thailand after spending 8 months on visa exemptions and plans to return in March 2024. Community responses suggest applying for a tourist visa to increase the chances of a smooth entry. Experiences of others indicate varying levels of scrutiny at immigration, but generally, those with a clean immigration record do not face issues. The importance of having travel plans and possibly avoiding patterns of border bouncing is emphasized.

Are you in Australia now?

if there is time and other countries between the bouncing it is ok in my experience.

I was in Thailand from December 2022 until July 2023 using 1 tourist visa and flying out and back in twice on visa exempt.

I have been in Australia from July until end of November and returned to Thailand December 2023. I was asked my reason for being in Thailand and I just said travel. No further questions asked.

This is just my personal experience. I am sure some idiot will jump on here and try to pick bones out of it... but I hope it can help you.

If you returned to Australia and are returning to Thailand you won't have a problem. The problem will arise if you start border bouncing again, and showing a pattern of trying to stay long term on tourist entry stamps.

I am have a questionable visa history and I have not been hassled at immigration yet. They're pretty flexible. I recommend travelling with the 3 proofs. A visa is a good idea.

I just come in on my 4th visa exempt this year but I only stayed for a month each time as I work away.

It's all at the immigration officers discretion. I have a flawless immigration record for over 21 years.

i did this in 2022 entered 8 times visa exempt. never had a problem. Shortly after that I applied for a LTR and was accepted. Even then no problems. It’s fine.

I did the same this year and have also booked my flights back for march and this time I applied for a 60 day visa recently. It was alot easier than I thought and only took a week to come back. British

Should apply for a tourist visa. It's not a guarantee but it increases the odds of avoiding issues.
