Just realised that the 45 days visa has reverted back to 30 days, I'm arriving Monday the 10th for a 35 day stay, my question is whether I have to suck up the 5 days fine or is there something I can do about it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing a situation where their visa has been reduced to 30 days but they plan to stay for 35 days. The community suggests options such as obtaining a visa extension for 1,900 baht, which can be done quickly at immigration offices in places like Krabi. They also warn against overstaying, as it could lead to significant fines or even a 5-year ban from re-entering Thailand. Discussions include the importance of having onward travel plans and the possibility of changing flights, although some express concerns about the costs involved.

I arrived two days ago and wasn't asked any questions about my return trip. You could come and then see if you can apply for an extension.

why not stay 30 days rather than 35 days. What’s the big deal over the 5 days

Doing a 30 day extension for 1900 bht is your easiest/cheapest/safest option,. I changed my return flight date with Thai airways and it cost me .30 pence !,. I’ve a nasty fealing I may get stitched up if I change dates again tho,.

You'll most likely need some onward travel within the 30 days as well

If you value the ability to travel freely and with minimal complications, do NOT risk it. Either get the extension (if you happen to be staying in Krabi it takes 15 minutes at Immigration not sure about elsewhere) or change your exit plans to be within the dates. Hell, do a border bounce at the very least. Overstays on a passport look bad.

Get an extension or hope you don’t get a spot check before you make it back to the airport. If you get caught it’s a straight 5yr ban

The fine for 5 days overstay is 2,500 baht. The consequences if caught on overstay are possibly horrendous. Rarely happens but you don’t want to go there if you don’t have to.

Agreed. Immigration arrested a French man in CM 2 days ago for 3 days overstay!

There must have been more to that story. Generally that doesn’t happen but without details we will probably never know why.
