What should I do if my visa expires one day before my flight out of Thailand?

Hey guys,

My visa expires on the 27th of this month, however, due to certain circumstances, I can only fly out on the 28.

I heard you have to pay 500 Baht per overstayed day. Is it that simple, or should I extend my visa just for that extra day..?

Thank you!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is concerned about their visa expiring one day before their flight and asks if they should extend their visa or pay a fine for overstaying. Comments suggest that a one-day overstay is usually not penalized, and it might be easier to show your flight ticket at the airport without obtaining penalties. Some advise against the risk and suggest extending the visa, while others share their experiences to emphasize that issues with small overstays are relatively uncommon.

Glad to see the troll Tom Tschech is now blocked. What a crybaby. Doesn't like it that I called him out on his bullshit.

Go local Immigration ?? Show Ticket n pay Bt 500

Done it many time
Tom *********
@Paul *******
Nonsense ! For 1 day flying out the fine is waived...., only a complete idiot would waste half day at immigration for something that is FREE ! "Done it many time" LOL ! :-)

Ok Troll

@Tom ********
Really?? They stop you before Airport your Nick

Pay up big time

@Paul *******
You are just talking crap! Chances for this scenario are zero and reports from people that experienced this don't exist, because it NEVER HAPPENS ! And now find a new playground for your scaremongering. :-)

@Paul *******
i seriously doubt if they will stop you and even if they did, on the way to the airport,ticket in hand , visa expired day before

they wont want the hassle
Paul *******
@Richard ********
With the current scrutiny immigration is applying it can become a big issue. Don't risk it.

I've lived in Phuket since the mid 80's

ONLY once have i been asked for my passport.

stop spreading malicious BS UNLESS u can prove someone was caught with a 1 day overstay >and had hassles>
Paul *******
@Richard ********
Times change. I was asked for my passport once at night near Sai Yok, while driving from the Three Pagodas Pass to Bangkok in the evening a few years ago. Authorities in border areas do sometimes check passports, that's why they have all those checkpoints set up. Luckily, everything was in order but boy was I surprised that a simple officer stationed by the roadside questioned so many things about my visa (perfectly legit by the way). I was soon on my way, but I can assure you that immigration matters is something to take VERY seriously in Thailand these days.

The risk is small, same with agent sponsored extensions but eventually one may get caught. Already those on volunteer visas obtained by agents are in big trouble, as these are the visa types that Chinese criminal gangs were obtaining.

@Paul *******
where do I get the ticket that I need to pay?
C ******************
@William **********
Before your departure you will find or see a counter or the officer at the departure check-in counter will send you to that counter where you can pay the penalty easily...
Mma *******
@William **********
He means show your plane ticket out with the date on it. Actually you can just to it at the airport the day you leave.
Richard *********
they usually dont bother with 1 day overstay and wont get an overstay stamp

JUST dont get caught on ur way to the airport :-)
Paul *******
@William **********
the advice by Graham and Richard is correct. I'd just get an extension as overstaying is never a good idea.
Tom *********
@Paul ******
Bullshit !
Paul *******
@Tom ********
So your advice is to overstay and make it more difficult for foreigners in the future?
Tom *********
@Paul ******
"So your advice is to overstay ", yes, absolutely, it isn't even a real overstay, is officially tolerated and the fine waived! "make it more difficult for foreigners in the future?" Again you are talking crap and there is no reason why it should make become more difficult for foreigners in the future? It's THEIR RULE to tolerate 1 day..., not mine..., you are obviously very confused.
Paul *******
@Tom ********
No, you're confused about the definition of an overstay. A one day overstay IS still an overstay moron.

@Richard ********
what will the overstay stamp do if I decide to return in the near future?
Graham ******
@William **********
It can affect your chances of getting a Visa for nearby countries such as Singapore, little affect within Thailand unless the overstay stamp is applied before you get to the airport, then you're in trouble
Tom *********
@Graham *****
You are talking just bullshit ! Stamp is totally irrelevant, and certainly doesn't affect any OTHER countries !
Paul *******
@Tom ********
Actually it DOES. It can affect entry to some other countries.
Tom *********
@Paul ******
BULLSHIT ! "It can affect entry to some other countries." Name a single one and share credible information to support this utterly idiotic claim that is 100 % fake news!
Paul *******
@Tom ********
At any border crossing you can see the signs for yourself. One day overstay IF you're apprehended before reaching the border and it's a 5-year ban from entering the Kingdom. Period.
Graham ******
@Tom ********
Additional facts (not bullshit) an overstay stamp is a problem if applying for an Elite Visa or a Tourist Visa from the consulate in Penang.
Tom *********
@Graham *****
First of all that's Thailand and not OTHER countries as you ridiculously claimed..., and nobody has ever reported about problems because of an 1 day overstay, never! And myself did exactly that too and I am travelling smoothly everywhere... :-)
Paul *******
@Tom ********
If you get caught by the authorities with even a one day overstay before reaching the border, you'll be arrested and sent to the immigration jail. You can face many years of being banned from re-entering Thailand.
Tom *********
@Paul ******
"If you get caught by the authorities with even a one day overstay before reaching the border, " Living in the region since centuries, never ever has police checked my passport or anybody reported such a hilarious story! Scaremongering !
Paul *******
@Tom ********
Yet I'VE been checked. A lot of people are checked especially in areas close to the Burmese border, where you have numerous checkpoints. Obviously you've never been there. Secondly, just because you haven't been checked before doesn't mean it can't happen. I also hear stories of random passport inspections (not sure how legal they are) of foreigners walking down the Sukhumvit area near Thonglor police station in Bangkok. More commonly, if you are found doing something wrong, the first thing they'll want to see is your passport.

PLENTY of stories on ASEAN NOW, Thaiger, the Pattaya News and many other sources of foreigners getting picked up for overstays of less than 1 week.
Steve *******
@Richard ********
You will get an overstay stamp but not a fine for 1 day.
Phil ********
Extend. Even though you won't get fined, they'll likely put an overstay stamp.
Tom *********
You will be ok, one day over when flaying out is even without fine !
