TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is unsure whether to extend their visa for one day or pay a ฿500 fine for an overstay because their passport is valid until 11/3, but their flight is on 12/3. Community comments suggest various options, like paying the fine, getting an extension, or even staying overnight at the airport, while cautioning against overstaying to avoid future complications. Many shared personal experiences where they were not fined for short overstays, but there are contrasting opinions on adhering to immigration rules.

This happened to me, just got taken in office and they stamped my passport, very quick !

I've gone to immigration for the same thing they gave me a 7 day stamp for nothing, it's not the rule but I've always found immigration very helpful

You paid 1900B for an "Extension denied, 7 days to leave Thailand" stamp

@Graham *****
no they didn't charge me anything

I have been over 1 day on the last 2 times of leaving.

Wasn't fined, just waved through.

I have deliberately done this 3 or 4 times over the years to get an extra day's nooky...555. They have never made an issue out of it and never fine for 1 day. In 17 yrs no repercussions. Cant think how there could be. One time the IO made a joke of it calling me a naughty boy with a big smile on his face as he pointed to the desk to pay the fine but they only put a small blue stamp (not red).

Things were different 17 years ago...overstaying even by one day is not a good idea.

Go to airport on the 11th. Sleep in your terminal till the 12th. Problem. Solved.

you have to be "airside" (booked in and through customs) this can only be done 2 or 3 hours before your flight, if your in the terminal public areas you are still counted as being in Thailand.

, I stand corrected. But I saw the movie with Tom Hanks. Damn the Hollywood fictional narratives!

Avoid overstay stamp in passport

Even one day it gives the F@@@ers power
Rob ********
There not robots , you’ll be fine , look up tod daniels advice on this forum , I’m sure I’ve seen something before
Paul *******
Don't overstay. It might have repurcussions for future entry or visa applications. Get the extension even just for one day.
Dave ******
Only 1 day don't worry about it, they might not even charge you.

got a red 24hr stamp and no fine then sent on my way.

@Jeff ******
You dipped out. Less than 24 hours you normally just get a "fine waived" stamp.

then don't downplay it. Getting caught with even a one day overstay can cause a world of trouble including a stay at the immigration detention jail. If you get to a border without getting caught yes you'll escape a fine but they record it in the system. Good to read you have never overstayed.
Steve ********
@Paul ******
I'm telling it as it is. The same as I tell people that using a visa agent is pretty safe 95% of the time, but get caught by immigration and you're stuffed. But many idiots swear by visa agents as it means they don't have to meet the financial criteria. Get caught and you're out. But so many blindly believe what agents tell them. As I said, I stick to the letter of the law.
Paul *******
@Steve *******
if you overstay even one day, you get a stamp in your passport.
Steve ********
@Paul ******
Never once have I said you don't get a stamp in your passport. That's a blatant lie. Stick to the truth
Paul *******
@Steve *******
yes, so now you're suggesting overstaying isn't taken seriously? Many overstayers are questioned on re entry, overstaying is a dumb thing to do in Thailand. Extremely dumb as is your response and attitude towards immigration law in Thailand
Steve ********
@Paul ******
I've never overstayed once. I won't do it. I stick to the letter of the law in Thailand. I'm merely relaying information gathered from reputable sources.
Paul *******
@Steve *******
actually, an overstay is a pretty big deal in Thailand nowadays. Could have a visa or entry denied (or at least more questions asked) compared to someone who's never overstayed.
Steve ********
@Paul ******
One day means fuck-all in Thailand. They don't even fine a person for this, such is the low level of the "crime". Cackle. You don't even get an "overstay" stamp. You get a tiny "fine waived" stamp. But hey, carry on with your usual bullshit misinformation
Conor **********
@Steve *******
Lie, I overstayed 1 day last year and I have an overstay stamp + had to pay the 500 baht fine. Would appear you're the one spreading misinformation
Steve ********
@Conor *********
Can you post a picture of the one day overstay stamp please? I'd be most interested to see this

ha ha chance would be a fine thing

@Jeff ******
They don't fine for one day overstay, BUT you do get an "overstay" stamp in your passport, which in Thailand means absolutely nothing. However, some other countries may take a dim view if you're applying for a visa to that country.
Marc ********
@Steve *******
For the elite visa it means something as far as I know
Dave ******
@Jeff ******
I was 1 day over about 5 years ago, didn't get charged the 500 baht at BKK.
David *********
@Dave *****
you don’t get a fine for 1 days overstay.

@David ********
Damn, all this time I thought I was special, 555
Jeremy ********
Tomorrow is Friday so if you want to extend you have to decide by tomorrow morning if not it’s the ฿500 overstay fine….
Michael ********
If it is about money the other extension cost 1900 plus photo and transport cost . I think sometimes better follow the rules , or stay a night in the capsule hotel at airport i side the transfer terminal,is another option
