TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to arrive in Thailand and initially receive a 45-day entry stamp, then seek a 30-day extension. They are concerned about overstaying by 3 days and whether they can simply pay a fine when leaving. Community members strongly advise against any form of overstay due to potential legal issues and fines. They recommend either planning a visa run or applying for a longer tourist visa prior to entering Thailand. The general consensus is that it's best to avoid overstaying to prevent complications during future visits.

I would definitely get the 60 day Tourist Visa and extend it for 30 days

Absolutely AWFUL advice from many! The chance of getting in trouble for 3-day overstays is 0.0001%. It's a risk but a tiny one. Anyone saying that the risk is much higher is clueless. I'm not arguing with explaining the potential consequences of taking such a risk but exaggerating the likelihood of it is disingenuous.

We ask questions because we want to do things correctly . The reality is there is a lot to learn . My wife /I did our own visa paperwork -But we still have further questions to ask for the next visa ..

I see it all the time on the internet ... I think a small number of people are idiots who like to be nasty just for the sake of their inflated Ego,s .

my mistake booked 78 days instead of 75. I originally was going to do 45+30 paying the 1900bht so thought I would ask question about paying for 3 extra days when leaving. I looked at 60 day visa but have now decided as it was always planned to book tickets for trip to Vietnam before 45 entry stamp runs out and show them if asked my plane tickets to Vietnam. On reentry to Thailand will get another 45 days. Which more then covers me for my time in Thailand

Do a visa run and get another 45 days
John-Paul ******
You should go to the local immagration office and explain that you need the extra 3 days. They will likely give you a short extension to cover those days. Should not be a problem as you have a confirmed outbound ticket. But DO NOT just hope no one notices (which is possible). An over stay is to be avoided at all costs. So be friendly... smile... dress nice... and ask for the an extra 3 day extension at an immigration office.

Take a 3 day side trip to Saigon. Flights are cheap.

*Assuming they've also stopped the madness.
Mike *****
Wow. I just looked and I see what you mean.

Don't take the risk of overstay there is a fine 500baht each day overstay but always a big chance of being stamped and noted you overstayed and will be a red flag if you want to visit again get 60 day visa and when in thailand get 30 extension cost 1900baht or 90 day visa or other option is visiting another border country for short time and re enter thailand and get another 45 days visa exempt to be on safe side of the thai law like thai girls say up to you
Danny *************
Just overstay. It isn't a big deal. They don't care. I did it accidentally one time after a mix up. I would imagine it might become a problem if you did it repeatedly though.
Gunner **********
Great plan. Go with it.
Chris *****
Don't do it, change your dates, not worth the grief if you get stopped in your last few days

Yes, as people say there: it may be quite a big issue. And, the deportation centre is a prison, and not a very comfortable one.
Steve **********
@Vesa ****************
no deportation center or any such thing, ( fear mongering ).pay the 500 a day or follow Shing Lam advice.
Glyn **********
A few years ago wouldn't have been a big deal. Now they seem to be clamping down on all over stays, i wouldnt risk it.
Gunner **********
@Glyn *********
not at all. It's the same.

I've actually had 3 short over stays, but never received stamp. The longest was 3 days, I told them immigration only gave me 57 days on my 60 day visa, I paid the over stay and everyone was happy.

If you want to come back to Thailand best not overstay they get stressed about small things sometimes
Shing *****
Apply for a 60 day tourist visa from the thai embassy or consulate, then apply for an 30 day extension when your are in Thailand.

Visa over stay

Overstaying your date in your passport is breaking the law.

Many times on here people ask is it ok to overstay - 1, 2, 5 days etc. The fine at the immigration exit desk is 500 baht per day of overstay. Some immigration officers will waive the fine if it is only 1 day, but you’ll still get a red stamp in your passport.

HoweVer if you are stopped inside the country for any reason - like at a police check point - even on your way to airport or border crossing then be prepared for a whole lot of trouble.

The police may arrest you as you have broken the law. If they do you’ll be fined in court and then sent to the nearest Immigration Detention Centre, where you will be kept until you buy a one way ticket back to your home country. If you don’t have the funds for that you will be kept there until you find some means of raising those funds. Once you have your ticket, you will be deported and blacklisted from entering the country for up to 5 years.

Sounds dramatic but it sometimes happens. 500 baht a day sounds cheaper than 1900 baht at a local immigration office but in the overall scheme of things it is never wise to overstay.

not true. You don't always get a red stamp if you are on overstay . Fake news. Please adjust your post.

thats a matter of opinion only problem with opinions everyone has one

Facts aren't opinions. You saying "red stamps" are common is pure idiocy. It's extremely rare.

I'm not arguing with explaining the potential consequences of taking such a risk but exaggerating the likelihood of it is disingenuous. Brian should have included the likelihood of getting into such trouble rather then just scaring you with the potential consequences.

It would probably be fine but I would advise to never have an overstay stamp in your passport. You never know how it might effect you in the future in Thailand or another country.

Also if the police stop you for any reason during the 3 days you're on overstay, you'll be arrested, deported, and banned from entering Thailand for 5 years. Even if you're only 1 day overstay.
