TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster and their wife, currently in Thailand on a tourist visa valid until June 8, seek assistance for extending their visa due to the wife's urgent medical treatment for cancer. The comments provide various suggestions, including applying for a 30-day extension at the local immigration office, obtaining a medical visa by collaborating with the hospital for documentation, and potentially converting to a Non-Immigrant O Visa if married to a Thai citizen. Others recommend the possibility of a visa run or obtaining caregiver status depending on the wife's medical needs.

Apply for a Guardian or Caregiver Visa

• If his wife’s condition requires a caretaker, Thai Immigration may grant him a temporary caregiver visa extension.

• He needs a hospital-issued certificate stating that she requires his assistance.

1. Apply for a Tourist Visa Extension

• He can visit the local Thai Immigration Office and request a 30-day extension for his tourist visa.

• The application should include:

• Passport with a valid visa

• Application form (TM.7)

• Passport-sized photo

• Extension fee (usually 1,900 THB)

• Medical documents proving his wife’s condition

2. Apply for a Medical Extension

• If his wife’s medical condition requires longer treatment, he can apply for a special medical extension beyond 30 days.

• He must provide:

• A medical certificate from a Thai hospital or doctor

• Proof of hospitalization or ongoing treatment

• Financial proof (if required)

3. Convert to a Non-Immigrant O Visa (If Married to a Thai Citizen)

• If his wife is Thai, he may be eligible for a Non-Immigrant O Visa, allowing him to stay longer.

4. Visa Run (If Extension Is Not Possible)

• If extensions are denied, he can exit and re-enter Thailand by applying for a new tourist visa in a nearby country (e.g., Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia).

Would you like help finding the nearest Thai immigration office for him?

Check this link gentlemen. Thai immigration at airport allows re-entry or multiple entries with a fee even it’s a Tourist visa

DTV for medical Treatment, you can ask the docs from the hospital

And apply online, but the problem is you have to fly out to neighbor countries, i suggest Vietnam / Indonesia

All private hospitals I visited here so far have visa services for tourists. Just ask her doctor for assistance. Good luck

I got a DTV visa for medical reasons. Good for 6 months stay. Valid for 5 years.

Something not quite right here ! Very fishy tale here I suspect !!!! Hopefully I am wrong🤔

This is all very confused. You have a 60 day tourist visa which you can extend one time for 30 days then you have to leave. This is not a multiple entry visa. You might be able to get a medical extension via the hospital but this is normally due to you being unable to travel. You should have applied for the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) if you want to be able to come and go, with this visa every time you enter during the 6 months it's valid for you get stamped in for 60 days (although you don't have to stay 60 days). There is also a specific Medical Treatment Non-O visa that allows you to enter for 90 days and which can be extended inside Thailand, that you can also get re-entry permits on.

You have a 60 day tourist visa, Valid until 8 June ? Is it single entry or the metv ?

You will get 60 days on arrival 5 April. Your wife can get hospital to help get the 30 days extension, you can also get the 30 days extension at immigration total 90 days each.

we have 90 days valid visa but yes at a length of 60 days we can stay .. so you mean we can get multiple entries permission at time when we will depart after the first chemo and the same time with support of Hospital letter and papers , I can extend the current visa at Suvarnabhumi airport ?? Am I right ??

What country passport do you hold ?

you must apply for the metv not the single entry. If you got the single entry you get 60 days and extension is done at immigration not the airport. Single entry visa is not a multiple entry

When my gf went through surgery in a Bangkok hospital (Vejthani) the hospital gave us both medical visas. The visa folks came to the hospital so we didn't have to leave and because I was her caregiver I got the medical visa too.

I heard so .. in my case my wife needs not to stay in hospital after chemotherapy… every time we may need to stay for 10-12 days and that in a hotel for follow up. As for the 5cycle of chemotherapy, we wanna do back n forth. So multiple entry visa with an extension of current Tourist visa are options we are looking at .. by the way , as you got medical visa after surgery , what process you had to undergo??

@Chowdhury ****************
we entered on a tourist visa and then planned the surgery so that it lined up with it ending so that medical would be like an extension and the gave use 30 day medical (Idk if that's Multiple Entry) my gf only stayed in the hospital a few days after surgery but had to go back for checkups for the rest of the time so we definitely used the whole 30 day medical.

We just asked the surgeon if she could write us a note and they scheduled us for the visa folks to be in the hospital so we wouldn't have to leave and then they took our passports with them and we picked them up from the hospital the next day with the new medical visa all good to go. That's how they did it at Vejthani Hospital idk about the others 🤷🏾‍♀️
Wayne *********
@Chowdhury ****************
did you apply for the TR60 single or the TR60 multiple entry. The Multiple is the one that suits. If it expires on the 8 June you could re-enter Thailand on the 6 or 7 june and get another 60 days

how long does this take to approve

@Chowdhury ****************
the EVisa ? To late now if you wanted to enter on 5th.

The extension at immigration can book online appointment then go for that time or go very early and line up can take hours.

There's a visa subsection on the DTV that allows for medical treatment I believe.

A newer type of visa.

You best google that and read the requirements. You need enough money in your bank account for that. Not very much, but more than many people have on hand.
