Hello😊My husband and I are in the Cha-Am/Hua Hin area. We did our 60 day tourist visa. My husband has a doctor at Bumrungard hospital. He gave him a medical visa certificate to give him 90 days extension. The immigration office in Cha-Am, where we were told to go because of our address, they said we needed a medical visa from a government hospital. We are going to go to Hua Hin hospital, that is where we were told to go. To try and get that form. After that we would like to apply for the Medical DTV visa. Has anyone had trouble getting a medical extension visa? Also, any advice on getting the medical DTV? We were going to Vietnam. Is that the best location? Thanks in advance 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on obtaining a medical extension visa for their husband in Thailand, as they have a 60-day tourist visa and a medical certificate from Bumrungrad Hospital. They were advised to seek a proper medical visa from a government hospital but faced challenges at the Cha-Am immigration office. Comments suggest that a medical certificate may not suffice for an extension and that a formal treatment plan is necessary for a medical DTV visa application, which must be done outside Thailand.

Good luck with getting the Certificate from HH Hospital. I suspect you are in for a long wait for an appointment to see a Doctor πŸ˜”

What your husband will have is a medical certificate from the hospital which he can use to apply for an extension of stay based on medical grounds, not for a visa. These are normally for instances where the patient is unable to travel so immigration might not issue the extension if that's not obviously the case. The fact they want him to go to another hospital might be a clue they're not happy with the certificate. That certificate also won't help with a DTV application, you will need a treatment plan for a minimum of 6 months from the hospital signed off by a recognised doctor on official stamped paperwork

First thing to do is get the 30 day tourists extensions if you haven't done already.

Then if a hospital/doctor will issue an "unable to fly" or he needs critical medical treatment, he may be able to get an emergency medical extension.

This is not guaranteed, if he were actually in the hospital it is easier.

As tourists they usually give these to accident patients, heart attacks, things of an emergency nature.

You cannot apply for a DTV in Thailand.

You would have to arrange the medical treatment plan and then leave and apply at an Embassy by e-visa.
