Hi, ive been looking on different websites for info on the following without success and i need advise please as there seems to be many different views on extending your visa. After speaking to the thai embassy in london and explaining that my thai wife had been involved in a serious motorcycle accident i asked them for a 6 month visa to come to thailand and care for her, they told me i could have a 3 month non immigrant O visa single entry and that i could get a 6 month extension when i was in thailand !
I understand now that this is not the case.
I contacted an agency in chiang mai who said that the immigration there will not give me 30 days, 3 or 6 months extensions but the agent said he could get me a year retirement or a marriage visa which i don’t want because i’m returning to england at the end of next march, my current visa runs out on the 29th of november and the advise i got was to go to mae sai to get 30 days for december and then go again twice in the new year but that still won’t cover me for march, a friend of the family advised going to laos to savannakhet to get a 3 month extension but i don’t want to get there from chiang mai and get refused.
Any ideas guys ?

Okay there is no 3 month extension from the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao. You'd be buying a NEW 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai. That consulate does not require proof of funds to get the visa and you would get stamped in for 90 days when you enter thailand
Hi Tod, i had to show my marriage certificate and say that i was staying with the family in thailand, i think i’m going to have to pay a visit to chiang mai immigration and ask about the 60 day extension
What you are missing about the Mae Sai runs is that you can extend them for an additional 30 days within Thailand. As such you can get up to 60 days out of each run.
The maximal case with Mae Sai runs, getting a second one at the end of December, brings you up to June 2020- your last one of 2019 brings you to end February with extension. Then two more in 2020, extended, do Mar-Apr and May-Jun.
You could get a 1 year extension based on marriage without using an agent, and that only costs 1,900B for the year, but there are financial requirements- you need to put 400k into a Thai bank account or show 40,000 in income. Plus a load of paperwork.
I wouldn't ask Chiang Mai about the Mae Sai runs, they do not encourage them and may well tell you you can't, although you can. Ask about the 60 day Thai wife extension.
Thanks Ivan i didn’t know you could do that with the mae sai runs, yes i’ve told about the conditions for the 1 year marriage visa but because i’m returning to england next march i didn’t want to go for that, i’m going to visit chiang mai immigration and ask them in person but i think maybe the mae sai runs maybe the way to go, thank you
Thanks James you and Ivan have given me more info on the mae sai runs, when i asked the thai embassy in london they advised me to get the non immigrant O, thank you
