Can My Father Get a One-Year Visa Extension Due to His Medical Condition in Thailand?

I have a question regarding my father.

He has a 1 year multiple entry type O marriage visa which was acquired from canada. It is set to expire Sept 18-2020. He was going to get a one year exstension with his ฿400,000 in his thai account.

July 23rd dad and my step mother were struck by a drunk driver fleeing a previous accident. My father and mother are now in bumrungrad hospital in bangkok. Dad has incomplete parysis and is looking at around one year rehabilitation.

I know this is a long story but feel I must add this to get to my point.

Insurance was slow coming so dad spent money from his thai account. Money is back in as of August 4th. This only gives him around 46 days with the ฿400,000.

is there such thing of a special circumstance, for tragic accidents?

I am hoping that we will still somehow get his one year exstension. As he will not be able to travel from the hospital.

Thank you in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about obtaining a one-year extension for their father’s multiple entry type O marriage visa due to a severe medical condition following an accident. Community members suggest consulting the hospital's visa support desk for guidance on applying for an extension based on medical circumstances.

As
@Rob***
stated. And luckily he is in Bumrungrad hospital, there is visa support desk inside the hospital

What you need to do is go to that desk and talk.

And let me just wish them both best wishes and a speedy recovery . Don't fret over the visa situation fella, save the energy for getting them well :-)

As he is in the hospital just ask there how to proceed, He can apply for an Extension of Stay based on medical reasons, but this need to be supported by the hospitals, Most of them know what has to be done,

If his step mother is indeed Thai could could he not use the 60 day visiting family extension?

@Darren ********
she is indeed thai, married to my father for 33 years

@Norman ********
then the 60 day ‘visiting Thai family extension’ may buy you the time you need. Get your step-mum to go to immigration and make an inquiry. 👍

my step mom just got out of icu. She is in rough shape. I'll be going to the visa desk here at the hospital as soon as it opens

Do not worry...a medical extension is easy to obtain for up to 90 days at a time...while they are under the medical care.

Their doctor and hospital will know what to do. And as they are at Bumrungrad, I believe Thai Immigration has a desk in the hospital ...

ask if they still do.

Saddened to hear of their accident. Our best wishes for their complete recovery.

even when his original visa will expire this sept 18th?

@Norman ********
hmmm...good question. The funds need to be in his account two months before extension... Ask Thai Immigration if any exception ...possibly
@Tod ********
may know.

If your father is married to Thai...as you state...only 400,000 is required to be in his bank account as married to Thai.

I just reread your post. 😉

yes this is my question exactly, as he will be 14 days shy now.

@Norman ********
father can apply for "60 days extension for family visit"...that will give him the time to season the funds and then obtain the new one year extension. Easy to obtain..one page application 1,900 Thai baht.
