Just wanted to share that I successfully got the Residential Certificate today at the Chaeng Wattana Immigration Office. I have a DTV. I brought them my TM-30 that my landlord gave me a week after I moved in; a copy of the info page of my passport; a copy of my visa and entry stamp, and that’s it. I checked the boxes for wanting to get a drivers license and buying a car and so they charged 400 baht which I paid right there in cash. They gave me a little slip as receipt and said it would reach me in seven days by post. Also, I’ve only been here for 42 days so the 90 day requirement/report was not necessary there. Hope this helps

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user successfully obtained a Residential Certificate at the Chaeng Wattana Immigration Office with a DTV visa. They provided their TM30 form, passport info page, visa, and entry stamp, and paid a 400 baht fee for the certificate. The process took no more than a few minutes, and the certificate will be sent by post within a week. Other comments discuss the DTV application process from different countries, the application requirements at various immigration offices, and the experiences of expats obtaining driving licenses in Thailand.

yes 400 baht, 200 for the DL, and 200 to be able to buy a car.

I read here someone saying definitively that you could only get the CoR after getting the 90 day thing

@Ali *****
the rule about the 90 day report changed last month

normally. according to the police order, a "certificate of residence" is issued on the spot, given that you show up with two passport pictures and the TM30 registration done

@Nongnuch *******
requirements are copy of passport, visa page, tm30 and the certificate takes one week to issue. You don't need photos. I've just done it in Samui. And it was free of charge.
Nongnuch ********
@Jessika ******
of course you need to be registered by TM30, or the Immigration won't let you ask for anything

@Jessika ******
for driving license renewal, I did my residence certificate in Sisaket, two passport pictures required because one of it gets glued to the certificate. 200 Baht fee, because it gets issued on the spot! Different Immigrations, different process

@Nongnuch *******
according to the law a CoR is free. You only pay if you want it same day, if not you don‘t have to pay for a coR if you can wait some days or week

you meant different IOs not different DLTs 😉

@Sue *********
yes, you are right, I should have said different Immigration offices. However, different DLT's can indeed have different requirements, too.

For example, some DLT’s don’t accept your yellow housebook and insist on a fresh certificate of residency. Other DLT’s accept the yellow housebook (happened to me!)

You can easily find reports all over Facebook groups from people making different experiences on different DLT's.

And the same, of course, goes for Immigration offices . .

many offices interpret the police orders differently.

For example, Jomtien Immigration is one of these "bad offices" when it comes to an application for the "change of visa type" from a tourist visa to a 90-days Non-Imm-O visa.

They are setting a wholly absurd rule (contrary to what the police order says) for an applicant if he is doing the financial proof by the deposit method, a rule that most cannot comply with

oh you know I brought two passport size photographs with me and forgot to give it to them. They didn’t ask for them either. I wonder if I had given them to them, would they have given it to me on the spot? Man. That was a goof-up on my part. I thought the mailing-it-to-me-part had to do with verifying that I lived at the address I said I did. Oh well. Seven days isn’t too long. I can wait. Thanks for this tidbit.

@Ali *****
at chaeng Wattana they mail them to you, confirming the address is legitimate.

I did that last week. I've got the letter within the time frame that they said I would. next week I will go for driver's license.

@Bob ********
I get it after waiting about 20 minutes - Udon Thani - 3 times

I paid 100 baht 5 years ago at the same office. I never received the letter so I went back to Chang wattana and they gave it to me in person immediately, no further charge

You could have paid an agent 1500 baht and saved yourself a trip.
Lynnette *******
@Us ****
so you say an agent would get a DTV with all the other documents, for someone in Delhi, for 1500 tbht? Really?
Sue **********
@Lynnette ******
I think he meant an agent to handle with CoR and DLT

There's nothing special about it. I got my driver's licence in less than 30 days via this route with METV.

I doubt this residential certificate will enable you to e.g. open a bank account as it clearly states on the letter that it is for the purpose of obtaining a driver's licence.

Yes, no, there was nothing special about it. It’s just I noticed it causes some anxiety so I thought I would share a success story. I only wanted it for a DL and to buy a car. I already have a Thai bank account.
Dana *****
May I know from where did you apply for the DTV ?

I applied from New Delhi. It was straightforward for me. I submitted the application, a cover letter stating I can work from my laptop in Thailand, proof of having money, photo copy of passport, my company’s master data listing me as owner, and that was it. Oh and Rs 25,000 which is 10,000 Baht. And got it in 3 days. No questions asked. It was straightforward for me. Where are you applying from

Hey. No idea why they asked for an invitation letter because that goes against the whole idea of the DTV. Something is off for sure. They asked for 6 months’ bank statement so that’s what I gave them. I’ve always had well over the minimum requirement but I think they only want to see that you currently have it. Maybe make a trip over to Delhi to get one. Or write an email to the Thai Embassy in Delhi and explain this to them and see if they have any suggestions.

@Ali *****
Brother, I went to VFS Kolkata to apply for DTV, but apparently there they are asking for an Invitation Letter as per the condition 5.1 listed in their checklist. I argued for 1 hour with them and I even called the Kolkata Thai Consulate and they said the same thing. They are not issuing DTV for Workcation purpose. Maybe it'll change later, but they keep making up their own rules.

Anyways, wanted to ask if the Bank Statement that you submitted, was it 6 months Bank Statement or 3 months? Also, did you maintained the required balance in your account for the whole 6 months?
Damian ******
Are you going to apply for a driving licence? If so will be your first one or renewal? If renewal, please share if you got 2 or 5 years in Bangkok.

@Damian *****
yes, I am. And it’s gonna be my first one. I’ll still let you all know how it goes and what I got.
