How many of you got certificate of residency after notification with TM30? For opening bank account, getting driving licence,..

.And what about the yellow book possible with DTV?

I still think about getting ED type visa for getting permit to stay as a student of a language course. As DTV seems like "non-Immigration" visa for short stay (same like these days 60 days visa for tourists) and ED type visa as immigration visa category. And only with the immigration category visa is possible to get the certificate of residency I guess.

In fact DTV is for more than 90 days so should be in category of immigration visa. Is that really notified as the same category as any other visa valid longer that 90 days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of obtaining a certificate of residency in Thailand can be complex, especially after a TM30 notification. To get a certificate, one typically needs to have resided at a permanent address for at least three months. However, this can vary by region, with Bangkok having stricter requirements, such as needing to submit a 90-day address report. The ability to open a bank account may also hinge on the status of your visa; banks often prioritize stable customers with long-term visas and require a permanent address. While the DTV visa is classified as a non-immigration short-stay visa, the ED visa is categorized under immigration visas, which may have benefits like residency certification, as banks and authorities may view them differently.

If you can't open a bank account yourself, an agent can assist you.

Waste of money.

Bank accounts will not be given to short stay people.

That’s why a residence certificat can be a help, but you may have to be staying 3 month on a long stay visa ( not tourist visas ) to get the certificat.

Probably much similar to a foreighner opening a bankaccount in your homecountry.

Same with residency, most countrys does not regard you as a resident, until after 3 months.

You may need to stay on another kind of visa, than you prefer to have, to get things sorted out, before getting the long time visa to base a future life on.

you can't, or will find it difficult, to open a bank account yourself on a short-term visa, that is why I suggested an agent to assist with the process, they open accounts for people on tourist visa for example, everyday in places like Pattaya, so to suggest it's impossible is incorrect information, you actually go to the bank with the agent, to complete all the necessary paperwork.

it is not a waste of money to someone who has spent days, or even weeks without success, walking around every single bank, only to be told numerous times NO!! You cannot open a bank account, agents usually do the whole process, apart from you need to accompany the agent to the bank for around 10 mins, to fill out a form, it is usually between ฿3000 or ฿4000 agent fee, and you have got the account for Life.

I'm only afraid that some of the agents open the bank account on their name.

if an agent assists you with opening a bank account, everything is in your name, they are just assisting you with the process, they have connections in the bank, you go with them to the bank, and fill out a form with all your details, it's very easy, you don't even have to queue up 😉

If you live in the Bangkok area you can’t get a certificate of residence until you filed your first 90 day address report. In other parts of Thailand that restriction is not in place according to some reports. You get a Tambien Baan even without any visa but are you planning on purchasing a condo? Because if not, it’ll be very difficult to find a landlord willing to provide all the documents required (lease agreement along with your landlord’s ID and own blue Tabien Baan [if leasing the property] for a simple renter as most often than not originals are required so the landlord has to show up in person.

Don’t expect to get a residence certificat, until you have stayed at a permanent adress in at least 3 month, since that is what the residence certificat should confirm.

Reconsider if a Thai bankaccount is need-to-have or nice-to-have.

Banks in Thailand are like everywhere in the world, interested in having good stable custormers, that have a permanent address, a steady easy traceable income, and use the account all year round.

That is why the banks are reluctant to give accounts to people on short time ( read: tourist ) visas, and who only spend part of the year in Thailand.

Furthermore the added attention on whitewashing of money, is an added burden on the banks, so even depositing large amounts isn’t a guaranteed way to open an account.

The value of a resident certificat, had gone down, since Immigration Officers are giving them to people that are not on a longterm visa, or have stayed severel months at 1 adress in Thailand, so even if it is a formal requirement, the bank make up their own assesment of the stability of the want-to-be customer.
