I went through immigration 6 hours after the midnight deadline recently. I got an overstay stamp and a guy in that section told me he was being forced to leave the Kingdom - I didn't get the story though, but he looked in shock.

yes, thanks. Looked it up now. It's something new, and for a very small number of countries but that includes the Nordic ones. Good deal then 👍. A couple other countries have 15 days exemption there but that again includes just a couple. Most westerners have to get a visa for Vietnam.

no, Vietnam has 15 day exemption but not for Danish afaik and they have 30 and 90 day visas. Nothing of 45.

Depends on where you stay. Every district has its own immigration and you’ll need to use the nearest one.

You’re right, I know people have been denied check in without a return/ticket even if they had proof of tickets out of TH. I also know people denied in the first place but managed to get check in after showing the staff the formal requirement for visa exemption.

it really depends on the agent and how experienced they are. Those working with the airlines for a while know that return ticket rule is not enforced by Thai immigration, while a new agent can just read off the list of requirements and is not familiar with different types of visas. It can also happen that one of their passenger was not permitted in Thailand by authorities and airline was fined and had to fly them back so now they are more cautious. As a rule, airlines are the ones checking all required documents including passport validity, visas, return tickets etc - before checkin

Ok, seems quite strange as no one else than the airline will ask for a ticket. Non O most people use as a start for a permanent stay or retirement in Thailand. Just heard of this as mentioned for visa exemption and some embassies asking for this when issuing tourist visa. I even have a friend travelling 10 weeks to Thailand with Qatar Christmas time from Norway just on a visa exemption.

As for the 90 days Non O visa: The embassy issuing the visa will not ask for a return ticket within 90 days but several airlines will. For instance Quatar. It happened to me a week ago when flying back to Thailand with a new Non O visa issued in my country of birth. Luckily I had booked another flight back to my country of birth within 90 days, otherwise they would not let me enter the airplane. Will now postpone this flight, as I will apply for a yearly extension of stay based on this visa.

I'm sorry Ruth maybe I need to delineate extensively for you but because of the EU and even though the UK has left the EU there is a feeling that there is a homogeneous treatment of people to some degree or another because this is where they come from and that's what it's like where they come from. No one gets a 45 day stamp when entering right now. There's no promotions and not a single visa that provides 45 days. It's either 14, 30, 90, or 1 year. The only time it would be different is if you are using a re-entry permit to enter on an already existing stamp.

absolutely FALSE. A tourist visa requires an outbound ticket within 60 days. Would be kinda strange uh, giving someone 60 days to stay but then requiring onward travel within 30. Many of Thailand's rules are weird enough, but not thát weird (e.g. that onward travel within 90 days isn't accepted because you can extend the visa to 90 - although some embassies do accept that, for exactly that reason).

It's not a visa but a stamp, that's why it's called a visa exemption. A visa is what you buy in a Thai consulate or embassy before you wing your way to Thailand.

visa exemption has nothing to do with a visa on arrival.

Come in on 30 day Visa exempt and apply for additional 30 days from local immigration for 1900 baht. Or, apply for 60 day tourist Visa before you leave. Providing the country from which your passport is issued qualifies.
