We will be flying to Bangkok (Don Mueang airport) next month from India with European passports. From the immigration website I see an e-visa isn't available for us because we're already in Asia. What is the maximum length of stay we can do in Thailand on a tourist visa? We would ideally like to stay 3 months. We have young children so it's not possible to travel long distances to embassies for example. Thanks in advance for the advice, I'm very baffled right now ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
European passport holders can enter Thailand on a tourist visa typically for a maximum of 60 days, which can be extended for another 30 days, totaling 90 days. If they enter under the visa-exempt category, they can initially stay for 30 days, with a possible extension for 30 more days. For families traveling with young children, it is suggested to utilize the 30-day visa-exempt entry and then extend it, or to use a tourist visa obtained before traveling.

and just like that we're done, this is turning into a slow motion train wreck with every Tom Dick and Somchai chipping in their advice..
@Jadey ******
you, your partner and children enter thailand on a free 30 day entry stamp, take the one 30 day extension you're allowed and then bounce out and back by land to get a new 30 day entry stamp.

And one more bit

I'd just let the children overstay, (not get them an extension) because children under 15 can't be fined for overstay and children under 18 can't be banned.

unfortunately that you would like to stay 3 months doesn't mean you can ๐Ÿ˜•

You either go to a thai consulate in what ever country you're in to BUY a single entry tourist visa (where you'd get stamped in for 60 days and could extend that by 30 more) giving you the 3 months

OR

You'd come in 'free stamp' 30 day visa exempt entry (if you're from a country who gets that to thailand) and could take one 30 day extension at the immigration office for 1900baht giving you 60 days total

thank you for this information, it was my fear. Can we decide if we do a visa run when we're there or do we need to show proof of exit flights please? ๐Ÿ™

@Jadey ******
you wouldn't be doing a "visa run" because you're talking about just bouncing out and back to get a new free entry stamp (border bounce) but you could do that and get a new 30 day entry stamp

then they could leave through a land border, go to Siem Reap and visit Angkor Wat or something and come back for another free 30 days... it's perfectly legal, why not mention it?

That way they could also stay for 3 months without any trouble.

avoid Poipet Border crossing as its problems for foreigners entering Thailand from Cambodia.
