Should I get a 30-day visa on arrival or apply for a 60-day e-visa for my trip to Thailand?

If I want to get to Thailand next week for a stay of 45 days or so...am I better off turning up and getting the 30 days on arrival then applying for an extension or applying for an e-visa 60 day tourist visa. How long does that take to process if so? Just conscious tight on time to get a visa and thai pass sorted..

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether to opt for a 30-day visa on arrival and then seek an extension, or to apply in advance for a 60-day e-visa before traveling to Thailand. Users mentioned that applying for an e-visa can yield results in approximately 3-4 days, making it a quicker option since it avoids the need for an extension later on. They also noted that while a visa exemption allows a 30-day stay with a possible extension, the 60-day tourist visa provides more flexibility for a longer stay. One user suggested it is crucial to apply for the Thailand Pass as early as possible, as processing times can vary.

Thanks everyone, applied yesterday and so will wait and see. If I apply for my Thai Pass tomorrow would I be fine to fly Sunday or is it that cutting it too fine?

No one knows. Some get it in minutes, some in more than a week.

As early as possible is best.

SETV is 60 days, and can extend another 30 days for 1,900฿ at an immigration office. Visa exemption is 30 days, and can extend another 30 days for 1,900฿. 90 days instead of 60 total.

If you are 100% sure you only need to stay 45 days, then VE should be fine. If you are here and plan to stay a few weeks more, and you chose the VE, then that's that.

If you apply right now through the evisa system, it's quite possible you could get the visa by next week. Now that you don't have to mail your passport in, reports are about 3 days on average.

The biggest difference will be you don't have to spend a day going to your local immigration office in Thailand and deal with getting an extension.

Well worth it in my mind, and you don't even need to wait for the visa to apply for the Thailand Pass

Also you need a pcr test 72 hrs before you fly and a booking for 1night and test in BKk

Don't forget also to apply fir your Thailand Pass or you won't be boarding your flight

thanks yeah across all that although tighter on time than I’d like. Still waiting on sign off from work for my wife for us to go earlier but trying to get as much done before we find out one or another…

If you have 30 days exempt by passport you can extend 30 days. EU was like this but I would suspect UK is same. Hopefully longer if it is bilateral in the future. Sweden used to have 90 days before EU

If I put in my application that my arrival date was the 6th but it ended up being the 8th would that be a problem? just want to get all my ducks in a row before pulling the trigger

For Visa application it doesn't really matter just try to make what you submit for your flight match what you put on the visa. But once the visa is issued it's good for 90 days to enter Thailand regardless of how or when.
