I guess it depends where. In chonburi I was turned away for wearing leggings but they let men in shorts and thin vests through which are apparently prohibited

in Britain we refer to ourselves as Black as standard. I’ve always found it strange that White Americans are just called American even though they are not native and everyone else has to list their origin.

Honestly, this is a question for Thais not the farrang answering. There’s so much historical context to this issue that is not just limited to Thailand but the whole of Asia, Africa, South America and the diaspora living in Europe. Western beauty standards have been upheld for centuries and stems from colonisation and slavery and in some parts of Asia, the class/caste system.
