I have a similar situation, and looks like I have to go do in person as the online app will not let me do it. Really nice that they force people to do it in person during covid times... :/

It's been in use for a year or so. Works ok, but it's good to have a printed copy at hand when visiting banks, tax agency or some other government agency. The employer can print a PDF copy from the online system.

Update: BOI was kind enough to hurry, so I was in fact able to extend under section 24 without the need to out of the country. But section 24 is possible only for those who are already officially in the BOI application process.

Overstaying is not a good idea, the whole process is already 2 months behind schedule. DBD's "one day" setup process alone has already taken over 2 weeks. I'm sure the documents will come one day, just don't know which day in the future that one day will be.

But it looks like it would still be possible to get an extension under section 24. Too bad I only noticed it now, earlier I though it would not be a possibility at this stage and time is running short.

Damn. My problem is that can't get all the necessary papers yet as DBD and BOI take so long in issuing the documents even though everything is already approved.

Thanks, so looks like the answer is a definite maybe. Well, I guess the only way to know for sure is to gather all available documents and try it at Chaengwattana.

Strangely enough, I am currently in the same situation (except in BKK) and trying to find out the same. Waiting for company documents from DBD and BOI, but visa about to expire because of slow processes.

Judging from the thai writing Tod posted it's about them trying to prevent people from entering Thailand with a tourist visa and then working here illegally. Says something like "If requesting to extend/change visa, consider coming back to home country. Please check the person has sufficient funds for living when entering the country. Currently unemployed."

Coincidentally there was a South-African lady trying to sell her "services" to me a couple of weeks ago, so the fear is not completely unfounded.
