Thanks everyone for your suggestions. The consulate for Phuket is away until the end of October, so I contacted UK Embassy in Bangkok explained that Irish embassy couldn't help. Spoke with a really helpful lady who said as a UK citizen they should be able to help. Sent all documentation off and have fingers crossed.
