I think the proper process is to make an appointment, but I didn't. I just dropped in.

I am in Hanoi doing exactly this ATM and I was approved on Friday. Not too sure about these e-visa suggestions. I believe you need to follow the visa application rules of the country you are currently residing in. So in Vietnam for example, they have no e-visa process so I needed to go to the consulate to apply even if my home country has e-visa. That's just my understanding.

It doesn't have to be THB right? It can be other currencies too?

yeah, I figured as much. I just don't want any chance of being stopped at the border and told to turn around for some odd reason.

yes, that is what I thought as well but from the link on the website it seems like it shouldn't be possible. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the wording on the website.

thanks, I looked at that website at first, but under the "Am I eligible to apply online?", I select "Document Holder: Canada" and "Permanent Residency/Current Location: Vietnam" and it says I have to go to the consulate/embassy to apply.

I've been staying in Vietnam for over 6mo so I'm not sure if it will cause any problems down the line?
