Routine checks will always only be a very small percentage, and when you comply to the rules you have nothing to fear when checked, so the stories of people who got checked have nothing to do with scaremongering, just telling facts
Anonieme deelnemer I know, but when you want to prevent the cost of border runs, the best is to just get a visa that matches your purpose of stay.
But I don't understand the problem of the cost of the border runs, compared to the cost of 6 months soft power activity the cost of a border run every 6 months is relative very low.
If you have a contract and get a salary and the company is legally registered, it should be no problem, but you might be asked for pay slips, and not paying tax anywhere might not look good.
For DTV Thailand wants applicants having a legal income outside Thailand, which also means you pay tax somewhere...
I have bad experience with Padang Besar, I was on visa exempt there early 2024 and after an afternoon shopping in Padang Besar with my Thai girlfriend, Thai IO did not let me in, he told me same day entry was not possible at this checkpoint.
Allthough such a rule does not exist, there is nothing you can do about that.
The only thing we could do to gat back t our car we left at the Thai side of the border, was getting our Malaysian stamp void, get back into Malaysia, get a taxi in Malaysia to the nearest border crossing that would let us in, then get a taxi back to the Pedang Besar border crossing in Thailand.
This was all before DTV existed, but for me never Pedang Besar anymore.
I never had problems with the Sadao border crossing not too far from Padang Besar
Anonieme deelnemer for living long time in Thailand like 15 years, you also might look at a visa to stay long time. DTV is a tourist visa, and I wonder, even in case it still exists in 5 years, you can get one again for soft power. Convincing them you need over 5 years for a soft power activity might be hard. When you get the correct visa for your stay, the borderruns are not necessary.
