In Hanoi there was this "gold street" where you'd be able to exchange cash into Vietnamese Dong with no fees... i.e. barely anything cut off the top. If I bring a load of GBP from the UK, is there something similar in Thailand? An exchange service with minimal fees? Banks/changing money in the UK is a rip off...

Phew! I think if I tried to show up with a 10 week plane ticket on a 30 day visa, they'd probably not let me fly... guess I'll be driving to Cardiff tomorrow then!

So my flight to Thailand is January 21st - April 2nd. That won't be sufficient, right? Can't I go to Cardiff or something tomorrow and get a Thai tourist visa? I still have 6 days...

Hi Rab! I'm looking for a single-entry tourist visa for 60 days (with the aim to extend to 90). I am flying out on January 21st (this Sunday!).. am I right in thinking that I can apply for this visa on the border, as long as I have the printed application form, 2 photos, passport with 6 months free etc... thanks.. I know this information is online but it's so difficult to get a straight answer!
