So was your initial visa recently approved (90 day stamp) or your first extension approved (12 month stamp)?

I believe that is a restricted occupation for a foreigner

You get your visa to enter Thailand not enter with the "promise" that you'll get a visa

You've been told to get the correct visa so for a 30 day stay a Tourist Visa is the correct visa

Why can't you just get a Tourist Visa to cover your 30 days? Also carry B cash, your flight ticket out of Thailand and proof of accomodation when entering.

I would bet you've never had a VoA which costs you 2000B in the airport "on arrival" then gets you a 15 day entry stamp at Immigration

Depending on the Non-O you start with you may need to apply for your 12 month Extension of Stay with 2 or 3 weeks left on your original 90 day entry stamp. Check with the Immigration Office you will be aplying at (when you get your re-entry permit maybe) what their requirements are well before you exit the country to be aware what will be required on your return.
