Cheers for the info.. I'll do the employed route. I don't think they'll check either, so getting the number accidentally wrong is fine (prob wrong number on school's web site anyway, they're so incompetent).

My cunning plan to do a visa run and come back on visa exempt (or tourist visa) is because that's what I've done when I've changed jobs in Thailand... It would also allow me to legitimately say I'm unemployed and be travelling just like many people do I'm sure... Anyway, I don't have much $ in the bank so I don't wanna be giving them bank statements. I do have a letter of invite from my friend in China though.... I'm sure that will help.

It's on the visa app form...asks whether employed or unemployed...if employed it asks for employer's details. So if consulate check, the employer will know...and could make some problems....

Then the consulate will realise something's wrong and may not grant me a visa...

I just don't want to say I'm employed and the chines consulate contact the school who will then realise I'm offski and create a problem

Best to do a visa run and convert it back to 30 day VOE (visa on entry - if that's right terminology)then.... Then I can say I'm unemployed. Agreed?
