For those using Wise - I've been asked to verify my old uk address. Obviously I can't do that, so is it easy to use my Thai address? What docs needed? ๐Ÿ™ - J

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about using their Thai address for verifying a Wise account, given that they can't provide their old UK address. Community responses discuss the necessity of providing proof of address, highlighting that Thai utility bills typically don't include names, which poses a challenge. Suggestions include using a Thai driving license for verification. Others share personal experiences regarding address verification and frustrations with bank security protocols.

I have just set up a wise account with my Thai address. I have a uk bank account that I need to transfer occasionally.

Evidence required as proof of address was a utility bill which I provided. They responded by saying the utility bill must have my name on it. Thai utility bills do not have names on them only addresses so I sent a copy of my Thai driving licence front and back. My transfer is currently in progress

no that wonโ€™t be accepted. They want something with your name and address on it, so if you donโ€™t have it then using your brothers address is best option. This will also give you the possibility to get the wise card thatโ€™s not possible for me with Thai address was

you wouldnt believe the sh** i had to go through when my uk bank was defrauded of ยฃ10k... probably because of their own buggy app that was compromised .... They were talking toe like it was my fault! And continual repeated security checks even though I'd do the same thing on every conctact. They weret even bothering to keep my details on the databae....a joke...

If you haven't got a UK address and don't want one, ask them about a Thai address and report back

I think you'll find most UK bank accounts require the holder to be a UK resident, unless the account is specific in that it allows foreign residency.

I was trying to give some friendly advice. Wise wanted my home country address which ties in with my bank account. There's a huge worldwide clampdown on bank accounts, all to do with CRS and Money Laundering. Good luck giving a Thai address on a UK bank account. I'm sure that won't raise any red flags

You have to be aware of the terms and conditions relating to your account. Many these days stipulate you must be a UK resident. You have to exercise caution because banks can freeze accounts (although they do give you a warning a few weeks before). I have a Santander account which recently came under notice. I had to call, answer a series of questions, and then provide evidence of my address (driving licence was adequate)

Not really. They just go by your own statement. If you've got an address and driver's licence you'll be ok
