speak to the hospital and get an unfit to travel certificate and apply for a medical extension. A 'decent' hospital will know the procedure.

No, a year or nothing. Unless you get the 7 day denied extension, but then you would have to leave the country and start all over again.

you did not renew the visa, you got a years extension and re-entry permit. I know that because a Non-OA visa does not require a re-entry permit, as it is a multi-entry visa.
