Hello. I was planning to do the visa run to Laos (border near Pakse) this Friday the 16th. Totally confused by the new TDAC online form as to whether I can still do this! Please advise?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on performing a visa run to Laos amid new requirements regarding the TDAC online form. Community members confirm that the TDAC can be completed within 72 hours prior to entry and is working well at land borders. Suggestions include preparing the form in advance and potential additional requirements that Laos may impose regarding duration of stay.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

I did that crossing by land on Friday. It was simple and quick with the new form. They are fully up to speed.

I actually was on a bus. You exit on the Laos side, stamp out, walk through a tunnel, stamp into Thailand and hopefully the bus waited for you.

My understanding is crossing in a vehicle requires other things but I have no first hand information.

the last time I did the border run for a new visa my wife dropped me on the thai side. I walked out to Laos and walked back! It was very simple and easy!

the visa to enter Laos is $40 USD for most countries. If you pay in baht you are overcharged on the exchange rate.

One "potential" trap is they ask how long you are staying in Laos. I suggest you give some amount of time in days. That way you avoid any phony scams about fees for short term visitors. I even ran into that at a remote Cambodian crossing.

Oh, and the Laos border collects 100 baht from Thais leaving to return home. So if a Thai companion accompanies you expect that.

What is your passport nation?

Do you have a recent history of staying in Thailand in 2024 with visa exempt entries and 30 days extensions ??

You can do the TDAC from 72 hours up to your actual arrival in Thailand. Nongkhai Border Immigration even provide a p.c. just outside the queue for arrivals. Probably best to do it before you leave home and be ready to show the downloaded, completed TDAC which is sent to your email address. Be aware that some people have been told by Laos Immigration that they need to stay in Laos for a couple of days, rather than entering and immediately exiting for Thailand.

the last time I went out and straight back across the border while my wife waited. Took about 30 mins. But Dave how do I complete the form ? It doesn't have any section for someone already living in Thailand!

just put your address in your home country and your telephone number from there or use a family member's details address and phone number if you have them. If you're doing a border run, then you're technically not supposed to be living here. 😉

No problem, it only has to be completed up to 72 hours before entry, also, I am not sure they are even using them at land borders.

There is an option on the land border for car registration but the car would need a car passport, which is why the first time we walked across and took a taxi to Pakse and the last time I just walked across and back!
