Can I apply for a DTV visa for Muay Thai training with a disability?

Hello everybody, i have a question and I'm hoping you guys can help me with my expectations.

I am a 40 year old war veteran who got wounded during a mission in Afghanistan. Due to that I have a disability pension, funded by the government, of €3500,- monthly (steady income). I have about €25000,- in savings (sitting in my bank account for almost a year). I want to participate in Muay Thai classes for 6 months (the soft power route) But due to my injury i'm not capable of doing more than 2 lessons a week.

If i can find a Muay Thai boxing school who will help me and provide me with an acceptance letter for these few lessons I will participate in weekly, do you think my application for a DTV will be accepted? And in which city is it best for me to apply? I'm in the Netherlands now, but I heard that Den Haag is not that easy.

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A 40-year-old war veteran from the Netherlands is seeking advice on applying for a DTV visa to attend Muay Thai classes in Thailand due to a disability. With a steady income from a disability pension and savings, he hopes to find a gym that can provide an acceptance letter for his limited participation. Community members suggest finding a high-quality gym, recommend avoiding the Hague for visa applications due to strictness, and highlight successful experiences from others who applied in Vietnam or Chiang Mai. It is noted that acceptance is contingent on providing the required documentation from an accredited gym.

Why trouble around a muay thai scenario if yout injury is the issue. Then cooking, launguage. Etc

I'm in the same boat at as you and I have my DTV. You go to class whenever you want to go. Your visa status isn't dependant on how well you can go a roundhouse kick. It's not even dependant on how often you attend class.(it's advised you do what you can but basically once you pay for a DTV and get approved it's been signed sealed and delivered for 5 years.

If you are physically not fit to do Muay Thai suggest you try the cooking class or medical treatment route, you don't want to make your condition more bad by participating in Muay Thai

Respect to you soldier! Our course is 1 or 2 times a week and its always been acceptable so that is no problem. Choose a gym that is where you want to stay, that is flexible and that can work with your disability.

But yea the Hague is a very picky embassy. They want an individual letter issued by the board of Boxing sport which gyms can do but the waiting time is often 3 months. I would avoid the Hague apply in south east asia. Vietnam or Laos are currently ok.

All the best

You should be able to find a gym that will have a twice a week program for 6 months. Just make sure it is a high quality gym that has had success with DTV. You might have to live someplace like Bangkok, etc to have more options for gyms, after which you can move on to wherever you want to be.

Anonymous participant then...my thoughts πŸ’...

You say that you are disabled veteran... I am going to assume that there's nothing which can change your disabled status with your receiving monthly payments for it.

If your participation in a Muay Thai training program will not endanger your disabled veteran classification, then I suggest you chat with a Thai Muay Thai training gym in designing a program for your enrollment and active participation.

Submit that with the DTV visa application, the requirements for it from the Thai Embassy in the Netherlands, and documents required from the Muay Thai training gym owner.

Thank you for your service.

In the USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ I see many of our proud disabled veterans participating in varied sports.

God Bless You and Good Luck with your DTV Visa Application.

Please let us know what you decide to do and the decision of the Thai Embassy.

Thank you guys, this already helps me build my expectations. I would like to live in Khao lak, which might be a pretty hard place to get the acceptance letter, I'm guessing. I will send an email to the gyms with my request, hopefully one is willing to help. Thanks!

Yeah I think you've got a great chance of having successful Application just make sure its with one of the Top Muay Thai Gyms that's accredited by the Government and they provide all the Necessary docs / paperwork and you complete application correctly...

There's several Gyms up in Chaing Mai & a couple here in Phuket that have good proven track record of successful applicants....

Good Luck....

Your going for the soft power dtv so as long as you can find a qualified school and they agree then you can apply. I think you are referring to Denang Vietnam which falls under the Ho Chi Man consulate so look at what they require and you have to be outside of Thailand to apply. There is no 100% way to say you will definitely get the visa. Just provide them with what they ask for then you should be good. Good Luck πŸ‘

I got a friend approved in Hanoi within like 4 days so as long as you give exactly what they ask for then you shouldn't get rejected.

yea, mine was 5 days. I've talked to someone who had only 3 days.

This ain't a race though. The week prior before I sent my application there was a scheduled power outake and a one day holiday. And this week Monday was a holiday too. I assume there was more work for embassy. I'm just happy I got approved before the next longer holiday.

thank you for your message. No, I do mean Den Haag in the Netherlands, where I am staying now. The Thai embassy is based there. So i could apply here but it seems hard to get accepted in the Netherlands. But maybe a good idea to apply in Ho Chi Minh. Thank you
