Thank you for accepting me in the group! I'm considering the possibility of immigrating to Thailand. And I need to enquire about visa and things. I have British and Argentine passports. Does anyone know which of the two nationalities is easier to immigrate? Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on immigrating to Thailand and inquiries whether having a British or Argentine passport provides an easier path. Commenters suggest that both passports have similar immigration processes, particularly for a retirement visa, which requires financial proof. The British passport may slightly favor the user due to the UK's status in international relations. Practical steps for obtaining the visa include opening a Thai bank account, understanding the specific paperwork needed by immigration offices, and the importance of being in Thailand to start the application process.

I have just ( within the last month) applied and received a Non O visa based on retirement with koh phangan immigration with a UK passport.

I can send you a list of what was needed , but from what I hear it can be different paperwork at different immigration offices .

Let me know if I can help ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜Ž

yes I did everything in Thailand. I arrived on a tourist visa .

First thing I tried to do was open bank account , especially as I was under the believe the money needed to be in the account for 2 months before the non O application . It turned out that wasn't the case , you just had to show a 800,000 baht balance within 24 hours of applying .

Hope that makes sense ๐Ÿ™

should also say I think it is well worth the effort and in reality it's just lots of paperwork. I am sure you will enjoy your retirement here ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜Ž

you would probably benefit from opening a WISE account while in the UK. This will give you a easy way to transfer your funds (800,000) into a Thai bank account.

As I mentioned before different immigration offices required different documents. You may find that you only need TM30 registration which is done by the landlord, you then just make a copy of it .

For me in koh phangan this is what was required . Yes you will need to be in Thailand and you will need to open a bank account , believe it or not that is the most difficult thing to do . I would suggest you just take it in your stride and slowly but surely you will get it done . I wouldn't worry about the funds being in the account for two months prior to applying as I did not have this demand , although you will hear it from many people.

I would suggest you enter Thailand on a TR visa and with the extension this should give you enough time to get everything sorted .

As long as you have the financial requirements (800k baht in a Thai bank account or monthly income of at least 65k baht) there should be no remarkable difference among the 2 nationalities

My guess would be the British passport just because UK is part of the G7. It's likely the same process with either passport. 50+ years old. 800,000 baht to park in a Thai bank, some other things.

Retirement visa come in two forms, those acquire in Thailand and those Acquired outside of Thailand. They each have different requirements and advantages.

@Xiaosong ****
I do not but several individuals in this group will have current information for you.
