Which country do you suggest to apply for a dtv Visa? I've heard that Vietnam and Taiwan should be good?

Hi everyone.

I'll be finally going to hanoi for the DTV next week. I kept track of some earlier posts but just want to know how long does the whole DTV procedure in Hanoi take recently? Will 2 weeks be sufficient? I wanna have an estimate to book accommodations, don't want to fumble last minute. Thanks.

What are the steps for DTV application when children are involved?

Do I apply and then apply for kids afterwards or at same time?

How quick or slow can the process be with kids involved?

Can I add kids on at a later date if needed?

Any recommendations for the embassy that don't need the funds of 500k baht in the bank for a longer period of time?

I was considering the stay vacation option, but very open to a soft power as well due to the high funds required.

Has anyone heard anything from the Los Angeles Consulate as of recently? I know turn around times are supposed to be 15 business days. With the holidays and the fires I can’t help but feel they are backed up and taking way longer than other embassies.

Hi everyone,

I know this topic often sparks passionate discussions on Facebook, I’m not sure why, but I’m asking because I couldn’t find the information in official sources.

If you’re traveling around Asia and applying for a DTV or another Thai visa (following the online process in the country you’re currently in), what happens if the process takes 10 days or more and you’re in a different country by the time it’s completed?

Has anyone been in this situation and can share their experience or advice?

Please, I’m looking for factual insights and not speculation or aggressive comments.

NOTE: For those who argue that in the past, you needed to wait in the same country where you applied, I believe the main reason was that you had to pick up your passport. Even in the worst-case scenario back then, the waiting time was never as long as the 10 days (or more) that many are currenlty experiencing with DTVs or other visas.

Thanks

Hi everyone, I am preparing my documents for the DTV. I am currently in Thailand and will leave the country to apply for the visa. I am considering Taipei because it looks like one of the fastest plasces to get it done, from what i have read in this group. Does anyone have experience obtaining the DTV in Taipei since they moved to the online system? How long did it take you?

Success story (finally). First of all, thank you to the members of this group who had the patience to respond to my questions. This is a great community. I'll try to pay it forward and help other members as well.

It got approved in a little over 30 *working* days since application. It was high season and both my embassy and the Thai one had some holidays. You can consult this on your embassy's website. Still, after seeing so many people getting their visas in just a few days it was pretty discouraging. Makes me think some countries / passports have higher priority than others. But now it's here so here's how I applied and the docs I provided:

Applied for "Workcation (Digital Nomad / Remote Workers)". I had two previous entries in Thailand one on VOA and one on tourism visa.

It's great that you don't need to have flight tickets purchased, you can just fill in your expected flight no.

For accommodation - I booked a hotel for 1 month after my expected arrival. I made sure it had free cancellation up until 2-3 days before my expected arrival in case I wouldn't get the visa in time. But other than that I had no long term rent or anything.

Proof of current location - photo of my ID card (not even both sides, just the front). This one is always strange, but it worked for me with my previous visa as well.

The docs - I could not upload the full contract with my employer because of upload size limitations. So I uploaded just the first page with the title and the signing parties and the last page with the signatures. I also uploaded the registration certificate of my freelancing business. Combined all these pages into a single pdf. The contract actually doesn’t explicitly mention that I work remotely. I guess it’s implied since my client is in a different country.

Because it was taking rather long, I sent them an email yesterday asking to estimate how much longer it would take and if I can leave the country while I'm waiting. They never replied but today I got approved WITHOUT any further request for documents. I don't know if me emailing them was related to this or not.

So let me know if you have other questions.

As a small side note - I happened to stumble upon the google reviews of my embassy and it had a ton of 1-star reviews from people that were upset that their visas were not getting processed in time for their arrival. Maybe some of them didn't consult the timelines (they are longer for the high season), but I'm sure a lot of them did. Anyway, if you see something similar for your embassy, maybe consider going to a country where you can apply in person and maybe you'll get your visa faster, if you have the means and if time is an issue. Just a thought.

Just about to apply for soft power DTV and have a few questions:

1. Is it possible to find the current waiting time before approval for various locations? I have some flexibility on locations - but would prefer not to have to spend more than 10 days there.

2. If I apply at Ho Chi Minh City, do I have to stay there? I'd rather go somewhere else (still within the country).

3. If yes can I go somewhere else and it gets approved could I go get the stamp say 3 days later? Just worried they'll approve it and it will take me a day or 2 to get back if I go elsewhere.

Thanks 🙏
