What are the visa application processing times for Zimbabwean passport holders visiting Thailand?

I left my visa application to visit Thailand at the visa processing center in Dhaka Bangladesh. I received a call a day later from the Thai embassy. I was told that because my passport was Zimbabwean, the embassy would need to keep my passport for at least on month. I promptly requested the return my passport.

This was not my first visit to Thailand as a tourist. What gives? In this day and age, taking a month to process a visa!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Zimbabwean national expresses frustration over the lengthy visa processing time for Thailand, noting that the Thai embassy in Dhaka informed them their passport would be held for a month due to special requirements for Zimbabwean citizens. Comments from the community highlight that this may be due to a policy requiring Zimbabweans to return to their home country for visa applications, as well as verification processes involving their respective ministries.

Zimbabwean passport holders are now required to return to their home country for any Visa applications for Thailand unfortunately.

thanks. Unfortunately I am too busy to allow my passport to sit in an embassy in order to process a Xmas vacation.

I don't think this is 100% the case, if he has residency in Bangladesh. It may be true in other cases but you can usually sidestep that rule if applying in your country of residence (which in his case, is Bangladesh). I think they will process his visa if he has residency, it will just take longer.

when was this introduced?

They have to make a request to the Thai Ministry of Foreing affairs and most likely to your Ministry of Foreign affairs to check that you are a genuine tourist.

Tonderai it may be worth seeing if you can get a second Zimbabwean passport. In my country at least it is allowed to get a second passport if you need one for work and need to frequently leave a passport with a consulate for visa applications.

@Tond****
, can your employer offer any guidance?

If you have residency in Bangladesh they will probably give you the visa eventually, it just takes the extra time. They have a list of certain countries they do extra checks and it's just unlucky for you the passport you hold. They need to send the application to Bangkok to check. I have had to wait a month for a visas before, for Iran, who did the same, they sent it to Tehran for checking, and almost a month for India (who were just being Indian).

It's peculiar as Zimbabwe is not on their current list, but it may have been added recently.

"The processing time for passports from the following countries may take longer as they require additional assessments: China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, Somalia and Sudan."

Okay. I can't afford to keep my passport at some embassy for a months so that I can go and have to for a week. I need to work which means I need my passport.

since when. My last visit I applied from China. It was a short and quick application with no issues.

Your country of residence makes no difference, it is your nationality that is the issue.

Mainland Chinese, Indian and African nationals are experiencing long delays in visa processing times.

I live and work in Dhaka. My ministry has no clue what my intentions are. I have not lived in Zimbabwe for over 15 years.
