I went to the Immigration office in Cha-am to apply for non-O ret extension a couple of days ago.

I had all the papers needed,,,,but,,,,yes,,,its a BUT,,😁

I had the paper from the Norwegians emdassy for proof of income,,,,but the lady told me that since it is the first time applying fir this,they also want that same paper from the Thai consulate in BKK.

As time is about to be an issue and I can not go to BKK,,,She told me that if I pay 2000thb extra,,,they will give me the stamp and fix the paper for me after,,,,

I never heard about needing this document from both places,,,,,so maybe it is valid information for others to notice 👍

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a person's recent experience at the Cha-am Immigration office while applying for a Non-O visa extension. While they initially had the necessary documentation, they were informed they needed additional proof of income documentation from the Thai consulate in Bangkok, which caused concern due to travel constraints. The user was offered to expedite the process for an additional 2000 THB fee. The comments include various viewpoints about the necessity and legitimacy of the charge, experiences with similar bureaucratic challenges, and suggestions for handling such situations.

Most likely is that you need to take the income letter from your embassy and get it translated in Thai by an official translator ( your embassy will have a list and there should be one located near by ) .

You LL need to take that translation back to your embassy so they can stamp it as conform .

Them head out to the Thai ministry of foreign affairs ( mofa ) so they can apply their stamp to the Thai translation as well.

Mofa has got a branch in MBK . You LL need to book an appointment online and specify you need an express service .

They open at 10am . Bring copies of passport . Drop off the paperwork , come back by 3pm and it will be ready for you same day.

Be aware that mofa stamped translation are only valid 3 months .

I have done this multiple time for french paper work in one day . Tight but works

1/ 1st appointment at embassy to get the legal paper needed

2/ appointment at translator shop

3/ 2nd appointment at embassy to get the official translation stamp

4/ drop off translation at mofa

5/ pick up stamped translation at mofa.

Makes for a fun day lol

Its a bribe.. but its save u time and the hassle to come to bkk which wud cost u more anyways ... thats how asia works

You need to show the Ministry of Foreign affairs the information used to convince your embassy you actually earn what you claim to earn. They do this because some countries such as the US would let you swear on a Bible you earn what you claim.

It needs to be tranlated by official thai trans in bkk gov office. I had income statement from American consule but had to get it noterized and trans at official. Thai trans late place in bkk. Is what he really means..
John *********
In this case, I would bend my rules and pay the 2k
Paul ********
They made me do that shit..wtf....sent me to Bkk twice pattay imm of course. ..spent lots of baht..
Paul ********
And yhey wonder why they cant.matc precovid tour levels... am going to Costa Rica..

The good ol' Pattaya Immigration office. The absolute worst of all the IO's in my opinion. No contest. BRAZEN open corruption and their own little Nazi fiefdom with many of thier own dreamed-up rules differing from the norms of other IO's. I could write a absolute book on the nightmares they put me through.
Paul ********
I verified it in Sept on my Non o. And crazy said. Oh that was sept n this is Oct so U have to do it again. ! Wtf

the joys of Thai Bureaucracy, least you know now and passed on the knowledge and lesson 🙏🏽

Offer 1000 baht with a smile and pay the 2000 if they insist. Why not?
Sherry *****
I tried doing my own retirement visa and turned into a nightmare. I ended up getting a visa agent for 20k.

@Sherry ****
what was so difficult?

2,000 thb is a small price to pay for renewing your 90 day extension.
Steve *******
@Jamie ********
Even smaller for the OP's 1 year extention 😂

So, to make things clear:

take his Proof of Income Certification by the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok to be further legalised at the Consular Department, Thailand MoFA (Chaeng Wattana)....
Pete *******
@Dca ****
but that would have been a requirement for his initial Non-O.
Michael ********
Probably cheaper than getting it translated and time and travel going to Bangkok to get it verified.
Steve *******
There's no Thai Consulate in Bangkok
Randy *********
2,000 baht would hit the desk before she took another breath. Done ✅

@Randy ********
more like another heart beat.
Von ******
@Randy ********
agreed! Damn I would drop 5000 if needed just to be set and walk away with the Visa hassles done and dusted.
Bill **********
Just pay the money .It's not a bad deal .
Rok ********
If I were you I would pay 2000 without hesitation. The rest of us who cannot verify income must deposit and KEEP there 800,000 baht on a Thai bank account. Doing the extension yourself you are also additionally making substantial savings.
Mitchell *******
If what the others say is legit, pay the 2,000 baht (get a receipt).
Julane *******
We had to have our marriage certificate certified by MFA after our consulate certified it. Every year we need to bring this this SAME document with us to renew our Extension. So you might want to ask if need it next year? Or you might need to keep paying that fee every year?
John ********
Just pay the 2000thb because if you think about it you will have to go to bkk so the costs and the time you spend on going you will be better off just to pay the money
Paul ********
@John *******
yes I spent 10,000 plus the first time..
David ***********
Pay the 2000
Knocker *******
Pay the money, Smile, and walk away
Martyn ***********
Money maker.. End of. Pay the 2000...
Kim *********
@Martyn **********
yes pay the 2000 and save the much larger amount if having to go to Bangkok - a bargain I would say and absolutely ok
Mathew ********
There is always extra 'processing' costs and every time they call it something different.

Even having all the paperwork and a print out of the relevant laws they can still say no. They try to make you worry about time so you will pay what they think is necessary to process.

Me and some other foregners here call it all the Thai way. Unfortunately they can and do, do whatever they want sometimes.
Kim *********
@Mathew *******
in this case it's a bargain

As usual...a brown envelope will solve the problem...?
Henrik *****
No need for brown envelope, the immigation did mention a precise fee for helping.
Willem ****
I guess you means your proof of income need to be legalised by thai ministry of foreign afairs.
Martyn ***********
@Willem ***
ha ha... It's a money maker, this thailand.
Pete *******
@Willem ***
his proof of income granted him his Non-O why not also his extension?
Willem ****
@Pete ******
He might have entered Thailand with a 90 days Non O from his coutries Thai Embassy. No mentioning of he got the Non O in Thailand.
Pete *******
@Willem ***
but he had an Embassy income verification so it is accepted for both the initial Non-O and extensions so again I am confused why income verification from his embassy is not acceptable for his extension of stay.
Willem ****
Pete Power

Initial non O from outside Thailand is a foreign affairs decission. Not based on any income letter and with different rules from that Thai embassy. Extention is a immigration decission.
Pete *******
Jan ******************
I guess they wanted it verified or legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs first. I’ve heard of this before.
Rene ********
@Jan *****************
massive drama and rewrites and trips and expenses and travels and hotels , etc....flights too, and then to embassy for final stamp! Cough up the 2000
Rene ********
Edited
Pete *******
@Jan *****************
surely they would have required that for the original Non-O. If his proof of income granted him his Non-O why not also for his extension. This makes no sense.
Jan ******************
@Pete ******
He probably applied for the initial 90 days Non O at the embassy at home before he entered TH, but it still makes no sense. And they could fix it with 2000 baht…
Bjørn ***************

@Jan *****************
Yes,,applied first from home
Lynnette *******
Maybe they meant getting it translated and verified in BKK.
Rene ********
@Lynnette ******
far cheaper and easier to pay the 2000
Lynnette *******
@Rene *******
I agree. I was just suggesting they meant getting it translated and verified.
Rene ********
@Lynnette ******
by the time you deal with the MFA and then the consulate, the verification etc and the fact that you probably have to go to the MFA personally a few times, because they have their own way, it's going to be ludicrously expensive depending on where you live
Lynnette *******
@Rene *******
it's not me asking. I was just saying maybe that's what immigration meant.
Rene ********
@Lynnette ******
, sure...... Personally I decided to fly to Europe rather than dealing with all these layers of officialdom here, because it was almost cheaper. Thailand hasn't signed the agreement of The Hague, so there are no Apostille stamps possible here. Verifying a document here invariably involves the MFA and the consulate of the relevant country and it's just a nightmare and a minefield
Rene ********
Worthwhile paying the 2000?
Brandon ************
You must have misunderstood something, because there is no Thai consulate in Bangkok. That doesn't even make sense. A country won't have an embassy to itself inside its own borders.
Wayne ********
@Brandon ***********
maybe she meant the document had to be certified from the Ministry of foreign affairs, I know every time I have gotten anything from the US Embassy or consulate. I had to send it to the Ministry of foreign affairs to get their stamp.
Bjørn ***************

@Wayne *******
Dont know if she meant something different than she said,,,,,"Thai consulate in BKK",,,,,
Jan ******************
@Brandon ***********
Some immigrations demands it legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Matthew *******
@Jan *****************
they will say and do anything so you use an agent and they get a kick back

that makes more sense than a Thai consulate
