What about volunteering in Thailand?

i have a wat i work with. they have helped me greatly and when i go there in person this year, i’m planning to offer to help them with anything they may need a hand with.

is it really true you can’t help monks and practice merit as a farang? it’s against the law?

how does this on any way protect thai workers and how is this even appropriate? i thought wats and monks were given some special preference. how can they deprive them of farang helping them out around the wat?

Seems kinda un-Buddhist

Edit: i’m kind of bummed out how this thread is going. Nobody knows what they’re talking about first of all, second, people aren’t even reading what I wrote or getting the right idea of what happened. I’m talking to my teacher who is ordained at the temple, I’m trying to go help out at. They thought it was a great idea to help out, and give some merit that way as well as the money I already give. So drop all these weird posts please with all the bizarre assumptions

I seem to recall there is a group of volunteer visa experts that can help answer questions - are they in Patong or only online? Could someone point me in their direction?

Current situation - my 1-year Non-O visa obtained while here in Patong expires Dec 12th this year. I was stamped in until Dec 12th exactly (even if my insurance is good til Dec 31st no big deal) and I plan to leave just prior to that to go home to USA for xmas etc maybe stay 2-3 months. So I guess when I return I can get a brand new Non-O using a service again (and they were very nice and helpful) but I heard that my current Non-O visa can be extended somehow once for 12-months and I'm not sure if that is true or what it would entail (such as a flight out and back, etc.).

So my current basic idea is just come back when I'm ready next year on a 30-day visa exempt, and plan to extend once so total of 60 days before needing that Non-O to be issued. Is that doable? When I got my first Non-O it was back during the 45-day exempt stamp (and 45-day extension) so I had more time and I recall it was a bit down to the wire!

Thank you!

I entered Thailand on a non-O visa in December. I am volunteering here. I am trying to figure out if it is possible for me to extend the non-O visa as it is the tourist visa,, for inability to travel due to Covid. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hi everybody,

I am looking for the best way to stay in Thailand for a longer term, but the options sort of confuse me and none seem to be fitting except the Thai Elite Visa.

I am too young for retirement Visa (35) but I do have my own company in Germany and can work for it remotely (but I don't have to). I looked into the SMART Visa options but they all don't seem to fit because they expect me to be employed to a Thai company or to start one.

I do have some money on the side but don't really understand how investment VISAs work and how risky they are (don't fancy burning money)

Any input is highly appreciated 😊

Hello guys.

I will apply to a Voluntary work with a Charity organization in Thailand. I have already the invitation letter and the rest of the documentation requested. The invitation letter mentions that my wife will be following my visa . I filled the online application already under this category.

In this point I’m not sure what kind of category of Non-Immigrant O, does my wife needs to apply. The only option I can find in “Visiting or staying with applicant's family resided in Thailand (more than 60 days)”

I’m really confused 🤷‍♂️. Are family members allowed to apply or follow non O volunteer visa ?

Thanks in advance!

So, as I'll be staying for 60 days, I'm considering some volunteering, animal based...but, it seems I must get the non imm O visa from my home country (UK)...is that right? Even if its just for 1 week?

I was just offered a volunteer job to teach conversational English at a government school. 2 days a week. I was asked by the director of my soon to be wife's school, so this is not a flaky thing. 2 other places also want me to do volunteer work for them, one might actually end up as a job, in our early negotiations. So, I will have 2 choices, long stay with marriage to thai or teaching\work permit for volunteer work. I am asking the group which might be the best. I have the 400K for bank transfer, but would rather not as it triggers a taxable event, but if marriage visa is easier, it can be done. I guess I am just looking for advice as to what this group thinks my best option might be. Not fake marriage, either. I won't do anything that even slightly smells of illegal. This will be a duly noted marriage in Thailand. TIA everyone. jb
