Hi All, I intend to retire in Koh Samui using a non immigrant O visa for retirement (after initially landing with a tourist visa and extending 90-days. etc......). Anyway, I understand that without a non immigrant O VOLUNTEER visa, I will not be able to volunteer for any charitable organizations while living there? That correct?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the ability to volunteer in Koh Samui on a Non-Immigrant O visa for retirement, after initially entering Thailand on a tourist visa. A comment confirms that volunteer work is considered work, and without the proper visa and work permit, it is not permissible.

You are correct.

Volunteer work is still considered work, and you cannot do that without a work permit and the proper visa.

A Visa or extension based on retirement is strictly work prohibited.

Just know that any organization will gladly accept you volunteering even if you don't have the correct visa/permit.

It's the same for schools or other employers and people with work permits. If the employee gets caught working illegally, they are the ones who will be punished for it, not the company/organization. So be careful.

technically no! Taking work from a Thai. But obviously we all do that.
