What should I do if I get denied entry at the Thailand border after years of border hopping?

Denied entry !

I’ve been in Thailand since 2022 with visa free stamp and always doing border bounces every 60 days.

What happens if you get denied at the border? Can you just apply for a tourist visa right away?

Any recommendation will be helpful

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported being denied entry to Thailand after frequently using visa-free border bounces since 2022. Other users shared advice and experiences regarding the consequences of overstaying or misusing visas, strongly recommending obtaining a long-term visa instead of relying on border bounces. Recurrent themes included the importance of compliance with immigration laws, the need for legitimate visas, and warnings about stricter enforcement of visa regulations.

This country seems to roll the dice to decide how it operates each day. They are also paranoid.

Example: An English teacher with 20 years of experience in a public school, married to a Thai citizen, carried a folder with proof of his legal status in Thailand, about 14 cm thick.

Location: Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh. Purpose: annual visa renewal.

His visa was denied.

After this experience, I told him, "Have you tried the other window?"

No problem. It worked.

- a lot of my comments here are spilling out because I’ve heard a dozen of these experiences this week. It’s just frustrating to me personally when people are surprised or want someone to fix something that they’ve already screwed up.

For all, I know you have a beautiful loving family in Thailand you need to be present. No shame to you personally it’s just that I’ve spent a week listening to people lamenting that were just honestly… Their time was up. It happens. I don’t wish you any ill will 😊

I took an opportunity to gripe. I didn’t mean to call you out specifically.

bro. All I did was turn to you for a moment to clarify that I wasn’t 💩 on you. it seems like your response to my show of care and respect was an insult. Saying rude things to people and then saying don’t take it personal it’s just Facebook is ridiculous. Human beings speak to each other and when they make personal insults, it is personal. I went out of my way to make sure you knew I wasn’t insulting you. I’m good. I’ve cleaned up my mess. People don’t want to be accountable for anything they say or do and say it’s just Facebook.

Sometimes I let it roll off my back, of course, but I’m a human being, and I made an actual gesture toward you and look at my result. I am not the problem and Facebook is not the problem. People are the problem and terror of taking any accountability ever is the problem. #Fukem I’m still gonna do what’s right ✌🏼

There is a difference between seeing and appreciating consequences, justice, karma, balance, whatever you want to call it, and taking pleasure in in it. If you take pleasure in someone else’s misfortune or pain, no matter how they got there, it just makes you a petty, mean-spirited, self-righteous arsehole. No ifs, ands, or buts. Live with it. And if what goes around truly does come around, someone will eventually be taking pleasure at your pain or misfortune.

What happened when denied, were you sent to a holding room or able to book a flight right away somewhere else?

suggests and talk to an agent for your next entry. At the very least, if they won't offer you a "safe entry" you know you'll probably be denied. Might want to look into the DTV as well, still fairly easy to get in neighboring countries and the agent can probably assist with that. Edit - a tourist visa probably isn't worth your time since it's no guarantee

ok- some border points are famously more strict. Poi Pet, Cambodia for example. And some airports also tend to be more strict. BKK and DMK.

It’s quite possible you have no issues but definitely have the 3 proofs available. Onward ticket, 20k baht and hotel reservations to present to IO if you are questioned. You are more likely to be ‘warned’ and admitted entry. If so, you may need to look at border bounce with agency or FastTrack entry services afterwards

Soon others will suffer because of their sense of entitlement.

I mean, people living this way aren’t gonna suffer. They’re just finally going to be subject to the rules they were asked to abide by all along, but new people trying to come, people that want to visit, people that need a break -it’s going to be harder for them. Thailand is going to recede from mingling with the world again for a while and regroup. Can’t blame ‘em.

Surprised you lasted this long on exemptions. They're gonna turn you around soon. I bounced by air to Jakarta and got pulled over at Don Mueng, they just hammered me verbally and said next time I better have a visa when I come into the country and that was only the 2nd bounce of that trip to Thailand, although for 7 years I had always done exemptions, extensions, and 1 or 2 border bounces each time I came for 6-8 month stays.

Friend of mine got turned around in phuket, sent back to Malaysia to get a tourist visa.

I always come for 6 months a year with a multiple entry Turist visa, never overstayed, never extended, always travel around Asia for a couple of days up to 1-2 weeks around day 50... and i got questioned at the airport last time. This was my 3rd annual extension.

Last year after my approval my retirement was late getting to the bank one month after my extension started. I didn't check my account, and I withdrew spending money. My account dipped to 790,000. This year, the same office in Samut Prakan said I had to apply again fresh. I was told to make a border run. So I drove to Cambodia. They failed to tell me I had to spend the night. I argued and got back across the same day with the temporary stamp. I then had to get all the paperwork fresh. Then I got a call from immigration police. They wanted to check my residence. This was a 1st. The bank letter failed because it didn't show the balance as of signature date on the signed document. They had the annual bank report and my updated bank book. But that wasn't enough. You'd have thought the bank would have been use to making the proper letter. Now that's done, and they said they would call me in 2 weeks to tell me the results. I won't go through this twice. I have a small house in my name in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. It's easier to visit Texas from there anyway. Without all the BS. I bought a citizenship there around 5 years ago.

An acquaintance from America has used a company to handle his visa for many years here in Thailand. He's never had the reqired money in the bank nor the proper income. Last month he was deported. The company he used is now under investigation, as well as the immigration office in Map Ta Phut.

The rules are being enforced stringently now. One officer said it was the Chinese & the Russians that have really stirred this up.

I will soon start the process of getting my fiance approved for Mexico just in case.

As for you, you probably didn't help matters, so I hope they burn your ass.

they welcome tourists with open arms, but a tourist stays for a few weeks and goes home to their place of work and earns enough for their next adventure……….a tourist doesn’t plot up here for 6 months doing border runs and generally abusing the system - try pulling that stunt in Singapore , or Hong Kong etc

Best way for average Joe to keep his nose clean is obtain correct visa, contributing to the Isaac economy, I get….but we don’t pay taxes, and income earned remains under the radar - tourists contribute huge amounts to the Thai economy as they spend on accom, transport and restaurants….average Joe doesnt, he might pay rent for a room and motorbike……

he wants HELP to keep abusing the visa system he has been abusing??? That is not what this group was intended for.

It is to assist people that want to obtain a visa for legitimate purposes, not RORT or circumvent the Thai visa and immigration laws.

This particular individual has openly admitted that they have been taking the piss and now they want to find a way round their situation they have brought upon themselves, that is the reason people here are expressing their disdain and contempt for such individuals.

We all are affected by such individuals GAMING the system and more than likely others who abuse the system or behave poorly when in the Kingdom is the reason that the 60 day Visa Exempt is looking like it is going to be repealed.

but most people don’t really really understand what they’re doing and they’re just stumbling through. Terminology and laws are played fast and loose, and many just copy what they think they’ve heard others say they do and it works. Then there are agents who fix for a price and many of their clients honestly don’t understand how they’re still staying- they just stay.

A lot of layers in the situation but at the end of the day, just because you can get away with something doesn’t mean you should, so excessively? Any real traveler has paid a few gifts and bent a few rules but I get tired of people breaking laws and violating agreements excessively because ‘I can because there are loopholes- blame the system’ and then they’re legit angry when the system that overlooked it, suddenly doesn’t- like they are being victimized now because they can’t keep cheating.

Accountability is a rare and beautiful thing.

7 years until around 2020, now it's probably stricter. Max mentioned a visa-free stamp, which is probably the same as a visa exemption

You don't need an agent for DTV visa if you can find a qualify class. Cooking , martial arts or Thai language class. But must certified!

Sorry to say this but if you have been doing border bounces every sixty days for 2-3 years you are the resson the rest of us will be penalised.

Recommendation.

Get a proper visa for the reason you are in Thailand.

if you do not see a problem with multiple "tourists" visa over a sustained period then you are the problem. Tourist do not stay in one country for thst period. It would appear they may have some form of business.

So why are you in Thailand.

again calling bull****. If wealthy people spend all their time travelling, using the tourist visa, which they are tourists. I don’t see this as the problem.

wealthy travel to many countries not just one. Someone entering a country multiple times in two to three years soley on a tourist visa is most likely working here, not disclosing that fact and evading taxes.

Are you American by any chance?

no and again bullshit. We have done just that, Indonesia, Malaysia Singapore, Lao , Cambodia, Vietnam, Phillipines, Japan, Australia. Just travel through Thailand and use the current visa exempt and move on when it comes to an end. Still a problem with Thailand. But I don’t know how you say I am the cause of all this. No other country deems it a problem even. It’s just a cash grab. Just wait til they start moving the markers on a retirement visa. A few condo buyers might find that don’t even fit the requirements for the visa to even live in said apartment.

clearly you have a problem with Thailand so do not go there. Stay at home with your limited circle of friends

I do not have a problem with Thailand or its rules. The problem is that the rules Thailand imposes are always to address the abuses of minoriries like you but affect the majority that abide by them.

My problem is with people like you who think Thailand should be run like their own counties.

I am guessing that these changes impact you.

I never said any of that shit. I have never used a visa exempt outside of its intended use. I love Thailand, but let’s face it not all people affected by current changes have been abusing absolutely anything at all. Your blaming them is misplaced.

additional every day I see farangs on the news doing stupid stuff like shoplifting and fighting and the news folks are blaming their government for the 60 day visa exemptions.

Folks that come to Thailand 🇹🇭 need to remember that you are a guest here and only allowed to stay if they want you to. You not only hurt yourself but your actions also reflect on all of us unfortunately.
