Hello folks 🎉🎉🎉

I really love Thailand and the diversity-friendly vibe here.

I’m exploring long-term options to stay in Thailand legally while working on creative online projects (streaming/content creation).

I’m considering two options:

The DTV (5-year multiple-entry) visa

Enrolling in a Thai or English language program with yearly renewal

I’m still researching and would love to hear from people with real experience.

Are there any recent policy changes or things I should be careful about?

🫐 Thanks in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion revolves around long-term visa options for staying in Thailand as a content creator, particularly the DTV (Digital Work Visa) and language program options. The participants share insights about the DTV visa's requirements, emphasizing that enrollment in language classes isn't necessary after the initial six months for the five-year visa duration. There are also debates on the legitimacy of certain visa categories and changes in immigration policies, with participants sharing personal experiences and advice on navigating these options.

You said legally, than there is only 1 option.

DTV purpose workcation

In your free time you can enroll in Thai language classes, Muay Thai training, cooking and visiting hospitals when sick.

You don’t need to enroll again in classes. Only for the 6 months to satisfy the visa application. If someone told you otherwise they’re wrong. You’ll be good for 5 years as the program is currently worded.

Pro Language school charges 27,000 for the DTV paperwork and classes. I’d press for 1:1 lessons online, so you can travel easy. Their standard package was for group classes however. That’s what I did and they worked out an equivalent pricing though I feel it was too expensive for the hours given. There are definitely cheaper schools to go through however I liked my teacher already and actually want to continue learning Thai. They’re in several cities in TH, it’s a global company.

GenuinePineapple2858 As you asked, there is ONLY 1, yes ONE visa with 1, yes ONE purpose that allows on line work DTV Workcation.

There is indeed no need to enroll in classes during your free time.

BUT feel free to show us that foreigners are allowed by Thai law to mix and match requirements of different purposes, to avoid requirements they do not like and choose the one they like.

GenuinePineapple2858 "You don't need to enroll again in classes". Please provide the law article confirming it! There is none! No check now doesn't mean it will remain the same forever; maybe, maybe not.

I really don’t care to argue with you. However, since you wish to play a contrarian game… (I won’t reply to your next reply)

It’s a 5-year multi entry visa. It has application requirements. Once you apply you’re awarded a 5-year multi-entry visa. You don’t keep re-applying, ie, no 10,000thb fee, no showing bank accounts again, or showing you registered for another cooking class. You don’t have to show your bank account in the immigration line at Suvarnabhumi คุณเข้าใจไหม

GenuinePineapple2858 You don’t need to reapply for 5 years or pay 10k those are the actual visa rules. Everything else is just speculation. No rule doesn't mean full flexibility for holders, it means full flexibility for IO on entry requirements. Changes happen quickly in Thailand; they didn’t even issue the extension conditions before delivering the first visas. Add to that the bank account restrictions, almost impossible extensions, 5 to 2 years DL for some offices etc.

GenuinePineapple2858 Do you have a link where officially is stated thet 6 months is enough and the visa can be used for the rest of the 5 years.

I know a group of people uses it that way, but immigration and embassy both tell a different story.

But for OP more important, a Thai language program normally not qualifies for a DTV, unless the institute combines it with a cultural program.

An English language program has nothing to do at all with soft power, so will never qualify for DTV.

1. i ask you to provide where it says you must continuously renew the application requirements for a 5-year multi-entry visa. I don’t believe that exists in writing, as been stated by many. Two different departments issue the visas and check them at immigration. So that simply is ill logic or incorrect conjecture.

2. I gave them the school info, they can call them and see what’s available themselves. Yes it’s a language/culture class but not sure where you gather the knowledge that “a Thai language program normally not qualifies for DTV,” but tbh I didn’t come here to argue with you. I told OP the FACTS that I know.

GenuinePineapple2858 At 1. I think when a visa requirement should stop before end date of the visa, that should be documented and not the other way around, but no need to discuss this, I consider Immigration and MFA as more reliable sources than a facebook group.

I don't see anything ill logic in checking a visa by a different department than the issuing department.

Most countries do work that way, and not only for visa.

Police also checks drivers licence, but does not issue them.

2. Language training itself is not soft power and should be done with ED visa.

Combined with cultural classes it might qualify for DTV.

Also most times online training does not qualify because you don't need a visa for Thailand to do that training in your home country.

Partial online might work, but more and more embassies don't accept that trick nowadays.
