TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian traveler inquiring about the 60-day visa exemption for a trip to Thailand after May 1, 2025, has received clarification. Currently, there are no changes to the visa exemption rules; travelers can still expect to receive a 60-day exemption upon arrival. The key change starting May 1 is the introduction of a digital arrival card (TDAC), which travelers must complete online three days prior to departure. This digital form does not affect the duration of stay but is now a requirement for entry. If any changes were to occur in the future regarding the duration of stay, travelers could extend their stay by 30 days for a fee at the immigration office.

I’m in a similar situation. If the 60 day visa exemption ends, my backup plan is to apply for a 60 day tourist visa or make border run.

but bear in mind that eVisas take around a week to process

Nothing has changed.

You are visa exempt.

That means you get 60 days.

So for your length of stay, you do nothing.

You have to go online however to do the TDAC. It will be a simple online form you will complete.

NO uploading of documents.

You do this in the three days before you depart. You will instantaneously get an email with a QR code. Print it and take it with you to show at immigration.

You are Australian so won't get visa on arrival but 60 days with no visa. The may 1st form isn't a visa it's just your trip/travel information etc.

TDAC is just a arrival form starting on 01may it does not decide the numbers of days u can stay in thailand.....the immigration officers are the ones who decide 30 or 60 due to the latest operation standard order they received.......just in case you are being stamp 30days u still can extend it for another 30days at the immigration office near you for 1900baht

The digital arrival card has nothing to do with visas

At this stage continue thinking 60 days when you arrive, May 1 has nothing to do with the number of days you get. IF it goes back to 30 in the future then go to immigration and get 30 days extension for 1900baht.

Nothing has changed as yet in regards to Visas

What does start on May 1 is the arrival card is now Digital and needs to be completed

No, no one knows. The government currently has a proposal to change it back to 30 days. If or when they do is anyone's guess.
