TLDR : Answer Summary
Visa runs in Ranong are still possible, but they have become risky and can attract scrutiny from immigration officers, especially for those with a history of multiple back-to-back entries. While occasional runs may work without issue, repeated visits are more likely to lead to problems, including potential denials of entry. Current services are operational, but it is advised to use appropriate visas to avoid complications.
Visa runs have effectively become risky and unreliable as a strategy to extend short‑term stays.
• Thailand now expects long‑term visitors to use appropriate visas (e.g., tourist visas from an embassy/consulate, non‑immigrant visas, or other long‑stay visas).
• If your entry history shows multiple back‑to‑back stays, immigration officers are especially likely to question you and may refuse entry despite having a nominally permitted stay.
Henrik Skytte Jeppesen visa runs just as good as ever. Going strong. If you do multiple land runs, you can expect resistance from immigration sooner than later
Todd McGowan You’re not wrong 👍 — that’s a fair summary of how it’s been working in practice.
At the Ranong border (Thailand ↔ Myanmar), visa runs are still happening and services are operating. For many people doing an occasional run, it works fine.
But the key point — like you said — is this:
• Multiple back‑to‑back land runs = higher chance of problems
• Immigration officers have discretion
• The more time you’ve already spent in Thailand, the more scrutiny you’ll face
• Eventually you can expect questioning, warnings, or refusal
Thailand officially allows limited land entries per year (for visa‑exempt entries), and even within those limits, officers can still deny entry if they think you’re effectively living in Thailand on tourist status.
So the reality right now:
• ✔ Occasional run → usually OK
• ⚠ Several in a row → increasing resistance
• ❌ Long history of consecutive stays → high risk
It’s less about whether Ranong is “open” and more about your entry history.
Janne Kaparn Pettersson you just said Ranong. The andaman club has been closed for a few years now. I was saying, there are regular trips going tao-ranong, so it means you are still able to do the border bounce, but I think it is to Victoria point. Or somewhere close by
