Hello, I wanna do a 3rd border run this year. I’m Canadian. Someone know a good agency not too expensive who accept to do this ? I’m from Bangkok.
Answer summary
A Canadian expat in Bangkok is looking for recommendations for affordable agencies that can assist with a border run, as this will be their third entry of the year. Community comments provide insights into changes in visa rules, mention agencies like THAI VISA CENTRE and 'friendly Thai visa', as well as advice on staying within entry limits to avoid scrutiny from immigration authorities. Some users recommend looking into longer-term visa options instead of relying on border runs.

Well you (and many others) are the reason for the Thais cracking down on tourists crossing borders. You clearly are NOT a tourist and hopefully you will be denied entry on your return. It’s people like you that have ruined it for all tourists

wishing no one anything bad but if you get denied to entry again it would be good for Thailand. People like you are the reason for the stricter rules right now. Get a proper visa or stay a loser.

What happens if you do land crossing Myanmar to Thailand and are refused entry? You can stay in Myanmar and plan your next move? Still not a good look if they put an unwelcome stamp in your passport I know, but it reduces the risk. Anyone know?

Visa-exempt entries and touristic entries:

What has changed by November 2025, mandated from above, was the beginning of stricter scrutinizing of your number of visa-exempt entries and the thorough check on "visa runners" (actually they meant to say "repeated border runners").

The new approach taken by border officials is intended to ensure that the option to do a border run is not misused, and the visa-exemption system shall not get “milked”.

There are no new visa rules or new law. There is no calendar-year reset of the number of touristic entries.

There is no limit of two visa-EXEMPTIONS within a 1-year period, and definitely not within a calendar year. This is simply not true.

Now as far as regarding the EXTENSIONS of visa-exempt entries, it does appear that Immigration is only issuing 7-day extensions if you already got a previous 30-day touristic extension on a previous visa exempt stay permit, within a 1-year period.

At the moment I write this, the 60 days are still in effect. So, the count would be 60 + 30 + 60 + 7 = 157 days of a maximum stay permit within a 1-year period, regardless of whether you arrive by air or land.

There are some reports of touristic 30-days extensions on top of the visa-free 60-days being denied for those having arrived across a land border, while there have been some cases under the same circumstances where an extension was granted.

*** Fact is, entry is subjective and up to the decision of the officer you are standing in front of. They decide if you are a "real tourist" or if they think you are milking the visa-exempt entry program. Your personal experience might vary from it.

There is just no clear directive as far as what's what, there are no official rules, however after a few interviews with Immigration top officers, a few basic patterns have crystallized.

Some people report they have successfully received a 30-days touristic extension on top of second visa-exempt 60 days, but again, your experience might vary from that.

The 7-days extension is a REAL extension. It is not the same as the stamp "application to extension denied, you have seven days to leave the Kingdom". I have already seen the stamp of a 7-days extension, it takes up almost half of a passport page.

Visa-exempt entries are not limited to two entries per year. This is a misconception, and some agents and lawyers spread this information to make profit from panicked people.

Honest agents and Immigration Volunteers are warning you not to believe those alleged news telling you that visa-exempt entries are limited to two per year. It simply is not true!

In the past, visa-exempt entries were limited to two across a land border within one calendar year, however, this rule was discontinued on July 15, 2024.

On the paper, visa-exempt entries by air or across land and sea were “unlimited” after this date.

Attention: the wording “unlimited” is not a fixed rule of Immigration. There are no such rules – again, the officer you stand in front of decides individually if your “personal limit” is used up.

Several visa-exempt entries within a one-year period are possible - like four, five or even more times, in case the pattern shows that you do not try to circumvent the visa-exempt system.

The entry history in your passport and your profile on Immigration’s Central Computer must show that your stays were short holidays - like for only 2-3 weeks.

Some Immigration officers will tell you that the total number of visa-exempt days within a one-year period should not exceed 157 days. It remains unclear, however, as there is no official rule.

The best proof that you are not milking the visa-exemption system is when you can show that you returned to your home country between each stay, or stayed abroad for a long time.

You should always be able to show an onward travel proof, a booked accommodation and – which is VERY important – you show carrying a minimum of 20,000 THB in cash (which can be the equivalent in another currency).

With the emphasis on the word CASH (credit cards and bank statements on your phone are NOT a cash proof)

A border official would rather consider you being a "genuine" tourist based on short holiday trips within a year. They expect that you never maximized (used 30-days extensions) during any of these visa-exempt holidays.

Some people still claim a new calendar year resets the count, yet this is simply not true. The count is based on the recent one-year period, and can actually reach beyond that. Your recent 12-18 months stamp history will get checked.

ATTENTION: obtaining a 60-days single entry tourist visa after you have already accumulated a few visa exempt stays, does not clean your touristic stamp history slate.

Touristic entries on a tourist visa will also be frowned upon, once you start to maximize them. The use of a tourist visa directly after you have completed visa-exempt stays, or consecutive tourist visa entries, does not free you from the obligations. The Immigration officer won’t be fooled.

A genuine tourist coming to Thailand once a year on a visa-exempt entry, even when extending the stay from 60 to 90 days (soon to be 30 days to 60 days followed by another visa-exempt entry) shouldn't encounter any problem.

Well, if you however start to push the limits and do consecutive visa-exempt stays PLUS extensions, you are not a “real tourist” anymore in the eyes of the Immigration.

This behavior is exactly what immigration is cracking down on. If you want to spend that much time in Thailand, or if you intend to come and go and your stays extend 180 days within a 1-year period, you are advised to just get the proper visa for this purpose.

For people who like to spend a consecutive half a year of hibernation in South East Asia and who like to make Thailand a base for other travels, the 6-months multi-entry Tourist Visa would be the perfect choice.

AdventurousFarang so I should be good for another 60 days after flying in for 18 in January and 85 in Mar-Jun and now 60 planned for Sep-Nov? I’m a tourist who is under 50. I plan on getting a METV next trip following year. I figured the immigration would tell me if I’m doing anything wrong. I’m retired but don’t qualify for a retirement Visa do to my age. I also don’t wanna lay 500,000 baht or whatever the Thai privilege is with the instability of the Kingdom and its laws…

Greg Alexander Woow thank for your complete answer..

my situation now; I’m arrive 9th December 2025 and I cumulate border run, 1 by airplane, 2 by land and I have use 1 time 30 day extension..
Greg ***********
Greg ***********
AdventurousFarang it's not the number of entries but rather the total number of days you already spent in the past 12 - 18 months on visa-exempt entries and turistic entries. If you have already reached 150 -157 days within a one-year period, you will most probably encounter a denial of entry. You can try your luck but have a plan B - getting denied, getting isolated and having to book a flight back to origin can be a bad experience. And be ready to show the famous three proofs

This is my own composition, like over 500 others I composed for my Visa-Advice FB group.

I don't need any AI crap or ChatGPT to compose readable texts that can carry you deep into the topic and give you proper information.
