TLDR : Answer Summary
For a stay of 41 days in Thailand, you primarily have two options. As a Dutch citizen, you can enter Thailand without a visa and receive a 30-day visa exemption upon arrival, which can be extended for another 30 days at a local immigration office for about 1900 baht. Alternatively, you can apply for a 60-day tourist visa before your trip through the Royal Thai Embassy or use an online e-visa system, which is considered easier and might be cheaper than extending the visa exemption.

When going to Thailand for 31 - 60 ( 90 )days, the 60 days touristvisa is the best option.

It is cheaper than visaexcempt + 30 days extension.

No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days.

It is easier to apply from the comfort of your home.

Not wasting holiday time to find, go to and waiting at a immigration office ( 90 you would need that ).

No need to leave Thailand in up to 90 days.

Visa on arrival bestaat niet.

Take a e-visa for 60 days, is cheaper and will save you time.

As Dutch you don’t need a visa you can have a 30 days visa exemption at arrival which can be extended for another 30 days at the local immigration. If you want to apply visa you could get 60 days tourist visa at the embassy before you leave. If you enter on visa exemption be aware of the formal requirement of a ticket out within 30 days. It’s rarely controlled but an online bus ticket could be a cheap security.

It's boarding the flight without onward travel that's the problem, as you say Thai Immigration rarely check.

I know, you’re right but I personally know one guy denied at the check inn in Norway and one other denied further flight from Frankfurt unless he bought a return flight to €1700. I’ve done it several times myself without any problems before I knew this requirement.

You don't need a return flight, just onward travel

I guess a ticket out and onward travel is more or less the same? This particular guy was allowed boarding in Norway but denied further flight with Lufthansa in Frankfurt unless he bought a return ticket with them. I guess he also could have bought an onward ticket but standing in the gate stressed with little time and a lot of people and arguing it’s not that easy.

A cheap ticket to anywhere would have been fine though :')

Yes, but if you’re not clearly aware of this your self and just denied at the gate with this particular airline, it’s easy to understand that he just did as told if he wanted to proceed to Bangkok and not just send on a flight back home.
