Hi, a friend is planning a trip (about 40 days duration), from England to Thailand to come in about a months time. Is the 45 days in Thailand still allowed without the use of a visa ? Or if not is it easy to extend after 30 days if they revert back to that duration ? Thanks in anticipation of constructive answers. Ps I have looked for him on the London thai embassy website but cannot find a suitable answer).

TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend planning a 40-day trip to Thailand should note that the current visa policy allows for a 45-day stay without a visa until March 31st, after which the duration reverts to 30 days. Extensions of 30 days are easy to obtain at local immigration offices. However, there may be complications if staying at Airbnb accommodations, as landlords must file a TM30 form with immigration. If the TM30 is not submitted, visitors may face challenges during the extension process, potentially needing to stay in a hotel for one night to simplify obtaining the necessary documentation.

The only problem some people have had getting the 30 day extension is when they stayed at Airbnb rooms, and the landlord/owner never sent in a TM30 to immigration like they are supposed to. This can make it a hassle with the immigration offices that require the TM30, to the point of some staying in a cheap hotel for one night just to get a TM30 copy the hotel filed. That is the only problem I have repeatedly heard concerning getting your 30 day extension.

Either way it’s easy to get a 30 day extension at a local immigration office.

45 days until March 31st, after which it is set to revert back to 30 days (although that may change).

many thanks for the quick reply. Do you know what the outcome would be if he arrived mid or late march e.g. expecting to stay for 45 days ??

if your friend holds a UK passport and arrives and stamped in Visa Exempt prior to 23:59 he will be allowed to stay in the Kingdom for 45 days.

Stamp in for 30 days then apply for an extension at a local immigration office.

In March it's still 45 days

Correct. I misread the comment as I’d already said it’s 45 days for March.
