Hi travelers,

Iโ€™m from the Netherlands and arrived in thailand almost a month ago with a free entry for 30 days.

This week i will go to immigration to extend for 30 days.

I do think i want to stay a lot longer than 30 days though. What is the easiest way to arrange this?

Should i do a border run every month or can i still try to get a visa for 60 or 90 days at once?

Would love to get some advice on this one.

Thanks all!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, originally from the Netherlands, seeks advice on extending their stay in Thailand beyond their initial 30-day free entry. Recommendations include obtaining a 60-day Tourist Visa or performing monthly border runs, with detailed steps outlined for potentially extending their stay up to 9 months through strategic border hopping and visa extensions.

How long do you want to stay, and what are your means of staying. You can get a tourist visa that lasts as long as 20 years.

BUT...

The best way I can see you staying here for another 9 months (or thereabouts). You are allowed two visa exempts by land each calendar year. I'll also assume there's 30 days each month; you do the math for the specific dates.

1. In late December (let's say the 25th) do a border hop to get another visa exempt for 30 days (it'll last you until January 25 or thereabouts).

2. Extend that. It'll last you until February 25.

3. Do another border hop. You'll stay until March 25.

4. Extend that. You'll stay until April 25.

5. Do another border hop. You'll stay until May 25.

6. Extend that. You'll be able to stay until June 25.

7. Go to Laos, and get a tourist visa. You'll be able to stay until around August 25.

8. Extend that visa. You'll be able to stay until September 25.

At that point, you're probably pushing your luck. I expect you may be able to get one more tourist visa, and then it'll be time for you to go back home.

How much longer do you want to stay? If it is less than 90 days you can go to a neighbouring country and get a 60-day tourist visa.

This can then be extended for 30 days.

Sorry, my mistake in reading. If you plan a long stay inside Thailand you need a long stay Visa. As we al can read on this page but also on all kind of Thailand forums, it becomes harder and much more difficult to live or stay long time using the Visa Exempt Entry for a 30 day visit and the Tourist Visa.for a 60 day visit. If you are younger than 50 years, not married, not have children, not work, not being a volunteer, does not want to invest 10 m Thb, do not like to spent your time in classrooms. The only option is the 5 years Thai Elite Visa.
