Should I apply for a 30-day extension in Thailand or get a 60-day visa from Australia before my trip?

I planning to stay in Thailand for about 45 days.

Is it easier to simply apply, (once in Thailand) for a 30 day extension, or simply apply for a 60 visa, in Australia, before I leave?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When planning to stay in Thailand for about 45 days, it is generally more convenient to apply for a 60-day tourist visa from Australia before your departure, as this option avoids the need for a potentially time-consuming immigration visit in Thailand. Many users recommend this route because it is often cheaper and allows for a smoother travel experience without the hassle of extending your stay once in Thailand, which can take several hours. A 60-day visa eliminates the requirement for an onward ticket if you have a return ticket within this timeframe and can be applied for online, taking about 20 minutes. However, others have shared that the extension process can be quick if properly prepared, with a recent experience taking only 45 minutes.

When going to Thailand for 31 - 60 ( 90 )days, the 60 days touristvisa is the best option.

It is cheaper than visaexcempt + 30 days extension.

No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days.

It is easier to apply from the comfort of your home.

thaievisa.go.th

Not wasting holiday time to find, go to and waiting at a immigration office ( 90 you would need that ).

No need to leave Thailand in up to 90 days.

"No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days." What does this mean please?
Henrik *****
60 days no onward ticket, only the return ticket.

90 days 1 onward ticket within 60 days, + returnticket before 90 days.

Thai authorities are playing around with exemption times to encourage more tourists, Personally, I got a 30 day extension 2 weeks ago at IT plaza. It's accessable now by monorail on one of the colour lines. Or train. Had all my paperwork and I made an appointment which seemed to be ignored. But I was in and out in 45mins and 1900 bht

ok excellent thankyou Bob.

What paper work did you require, in addition to your Passport?

there's a form you have to fill in, and because I was staying with family they registered me as staying with them and printed out the acknowledgement email, which had the registration address. If you are staying at a hotel they are supposed to register you, ask for a print out, it saves the document checker time trying to find it online, it can take them 20mins from my observations at the time watching others. If I can find the form I will pm it to you

Depends on if you want to spend 4-6 hours of one of your days in Thailand traveling to the immigration office to apply for an extension, or if you'd rather get it all out of the way before you travel.

coming in visa exempt, it would be a short trip to the immigration office at IT Square, Lak Si Plaza, 3rd floor. ฿1900

You can make an online appointment prior, and save a lot of waiting.

It's a different place if you decide to come in on a tourist visa.
