TLDR : Answer Summary
The US has announced it will suspend immigrant visa processing for nationals from 75 countries, including Thailand, due to concerns surrounding individuals potentially utilizing public assistance while residing in the US. This suspension will not affect non-immigrant visas, such as tourist or business visas. The announcement has incited a range of reactions, with many expressing concern about the implications for Thai nationals and the overall relationship between Thailand and the US.

The 75 countries are those whose nationals face an indefinite pause on immigrant visa processing at U.S. consulates, effective January 21 (tourist, student, and other nonimmigrant visas are not part of this specific pause). Yes, one of the countries on the list is:

Thailand

respectfully sir, if you watch state news (CNN and big three), I can understand you and the perception you have. Here is a fact that is no disputable, President Trump won both the popular and electoral vote. He won on the issues you get to watch on tv. The majority of people want to restore border integrity, remove illegals immigrants, and clean up four years of negligence.

I suggest you replay Mr. Trump's campaign promises and acknowledge what he is putting into place.

In conclusion, this is what the people of our great country want and voted for!

Actually, this is serious problem to Thailand and Thai people. I meant that their name and grace of country are not regarded by USA government, because Thailand is in their lists like black list. I do not know why USA does this to Thailand. Thailand is fully respected country and full international Member of the world. This is hurting Thai people and their loving country. disgraced to Thailand and Thai people's pride of their mother country. According to equity principle on foreign affairs policy of a country, Thailand can do the same to American citizen and put USA in their black list too. This is more than benefit or money to Thailand but more about the pride and history and their majesty of Thailand. Whatever Trump does, he is voted by almost half of Americans. What a shame!

yes but I think Thailand can do, because it is not about the money. Thailand is in black list countries, dangerous countries to USA. USA made it to Thailand. This is not simple problem. It is more about pride of Thailand, and Thailand independence. Thailand is a country that stands fully independently. USA harms Thai people's pride and grace to their mother country Thailand. So that is why Thailand can do it to Americans. Furthermore, Americans contribution of Thai economy is not much at all, maybe less than 1 percent of all. On tourism business, Asians such as China, South Korea, Malaysia have a lot of portion of Thai economy. Well, Thai tourism business has no big effect at all without American tourists. anyway, it is so bad what USA did to Thailand and Thai people. It is a shame! Thailand is loving country and Thai people are nice and great people!!

Thailand as well. but very few only. The most parts of unsafety caused in Thailand by Foreigners. it is so strange why USA makes Thailand on their dangerous country list??? This is so weird for me. Thailand is the most safest country in the world. USA is the most dangerous country in the world. And most of Thai people are generous and nice! they love smiles. It is really a shame that the most stupid and dangerous people make the most safest and nice people on the dangerous peoples list. 🤣🤣🤣

yes right. but the problem here is that Thailand is on the countries lists to suspend. Not other countries like Japan or South Korea or Taiwan? They are not in this list. Why Thailand there? That is discrimination of Thailand and Thai pepople. USA sees Thais are dangerous? or public burden to USA? This is the problem here. Then, Thailand also can see Americans are dangerous and public burden to Thailand. So they can suspend Amecians?

I just meant only to American citizens that USA did to Thai citizens. Not to other country citizens. Eye to Eye principle in foreign affairs. That is ground principle for independent country like USA, Thailand. USA can do this alone, no problem. But also Thailand can do as well. And, again, Americans tourists contribution to Thai tourism economy is not much at all. maybe less than 1 percent. so if Thailand does the same way to USA citizens as USA did to Thai citizens, there is not a big effect on Thai tourism. maybe this can be better for Thai people to show that Thailand is a country that is never discriminated by any other country in the world. So Thailand will be ready to do something back if a country does discriminate Thai citizen. This signal to their people is more important for the country and people.

Thais are seen as a higher risk to become a public charge in USA vs the other countries you mention (Japan, Korea, etc). And that's the only metric if you want to call it discrimination. The other 74 countries in the same boat.

It is in best interest of each country to apply measures that will not put an illegal strain on the local tax payers. Thailand does the same. They treat different countries differently based on their analysis of risks of a person becoming a public charge. A person from Myanmar will be treated differently than an American for Thai entry. Should Myanmar people scream foul and discrimination by your logic?

BTW: it's around 4% and growing, that is, the Americans visiting Thailand. There has been a sharp decrease of Chinese tourists in 2025 and the local businesses were bitching blue murder to the Thai Tourism Authority, much so that same authority postponed a fare increase on MRT/BTS which would also affect local citizens.

While the knee jerk reaction to US visa suspension is to implement a similar restriction for Americans will only serve to harm local Thai businesses. It is what it is.

Wait around long enough like 3 years (šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰) and things will go back to normal.

Sorry for the long drawl.

maybe you are right. especially this, A person from Myanmar will be treated differently than an American for Thai entry. Should Myanmar people scream foul and discrimination by your logic? --- very good point you got. Well, Thailand can do this, A person from USA will be treated differently than any other citizens for Thai entry, should American people never scream foul and discrimination by your logic too. Just changed from Myanmar to Americans. why not? Thailand government sees Americans are burden to Thailand? USA can do but Thailand can not do? Yes sure, Thailand can do it too. Thai people are differently treated by USA to enter USA, so Americans are also differently treated by Thailand to enter Thailand. Simply fair and fits for equity principle. Regardless of American tourists to decrease, other tourists can replace it? even, that is not what we can do.

I read that around 300,000 to 400,000 Farangs live in Thailand.

There are supposedly around 30,000 to 40,000 Americans.

That would be about 10%.

In total, approximately three to five million foreigners live in Thailand.

if this news is real, Thailand should do something like that for American citizens. There is equity principle in foreign affairs. If a country discriminated Thai citizens example is here like in the post, Thailand can or should do the same to that country citizens too. Immigration is totally up to the country. USA can do this. And thailand can do this too. But only American citizens in this case.

It really wouldn’t benefit Thailand to ban Americans as tourists. Because Americans generate revenue and provide jobs to their country even as residents and retirees.

Another example, if your country government evicts all Thai people from the country for any reason, Thailand also should evicts all your country people from Thailand. That is equity principle. If a country called their embassy back from Thailand, for any reason, Thailand also call their embassy back to Thailand. That happened too in some cases between two countries. This is a good example of equity principle.

It is not benefit though, A country can do it or sometimes they must do it. This is equity principle between countries. It does not matter if it is benefit or not. A country is independent and sometimes it is about a name of country or all nations of that country. Which country likes to be discriminated by a country? That is a shame of a country.

yeah racism and discrimination and being screwed for nationality is something that USA people don't take sitting down. YOu know how Thais only let USA people run very limited businesses, not own guns, not protect themselves in self defense, and must hire locals. Funny the USA doesn't doe that. And look into how many refugees Thailand takes in compared to the USA and then look in to how many people each year gain USA citizenship and then look into Thailand and it's numbers. Now you will understand why you came across as a complete detracting plankton level babbler.

There is more to it and any educated person would tell the whole story and not just hot points.

The goal is to prioritize family visas over fraudulent work/tourist visa applications that push legitimate family member visas down the line. The kickbacks to prioritize the illegitimate visas have hurt good people and kept families apart. It’s a reset not a stoppage. Please learn and form your own opinion before you believe the bullshit.

U.S. suspending immigrant visa processing from 75 countries over public assistance

WASHINGTON — The U.S. State Department said Wednesday it will suspend the processing of immigrant visas for citizens of 75 countries whose nationals are deemed likely to require public assistance while living in the United States.

The State Department, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, said it had instructed consular officers to halt immigrant visa applications from the countries affected in accordance with a broader order issued in November that tightened rules around potential immigrants who might become ā€œpublic chargesā€ in the U.S.

The suspension, which will begin Jan. 21, will not apply to applicants seeking non-immigrant visas, or temporary tourist or business visas, who make up the vast majority of visa seekers. Demand for non-immigrant visas is expected to rise dramatically in the coming months and years due to the upcoming 2026 World Cup and 2028 Olympics both of which the U.S. will host or co-host.

It’s sad that there are people on this site who constantly ridicule, mouth-off, and hope to belittle or prove someone wrong.

When did people begin to think it’s OK to disrespect or attack people they don’t know for a post they created? Yes, these people are called ā€œhaters.ā€

In Thailand, Thai people would say ąøŖąø‡ąøŖąø²ąø£ąøžą¹ˆąøą¹ąø”ą¹ˆā€¦

(I feel for their parents) because rude and ugly behavior in public is

เสียหน้า (to lose face). Thai people believe that rude behavior brings shame to a family.

I am only reporting what the US government said… I am not a member of the USA congress… and… I did not ask anyone a question. ą¹‚ąø˜ą¹€ąøąø¢!

great so they are applying this to all countries like Australia, UK and Canada seeing as you know it's designed for fairness and is just temporary for the benefit of everyone like when a bank tells you they are increasing fees as a benefit type thing?

I thought a country needed to actually offer benefits before anyone can take advantage of them?

Also while doing all this cleaning up, have you given thought to who will do your cleaning, wipe the backsides of the very large population of old people or are you expecting the new generation of kids from the US to actually do an honest days work for low wages?

It's most of these low paid migrants that carry the rest of you and I am pretty sure you pay these people cash in hand so this rubbish about being an honest tax payer and trying to set yourself apart is ridiculous.

I lived in Washington DC with my wife and we lived in a house owned by a Thai person who owned a restaurant. There were three Thai families in there all making good money at different restaurants. They all lied about their actual income which was around four to six thousand dollars a month and said they were making 1000 dollars. This allowed them to apply for every single government program. We were getting food stamps, housing allowance, Medicaid, and tanf direct cash subsidies. They were laughing about how they were taking advantage of the programs. It wasn't just how people who do this but nearly all Latino people come and do this as well. The only ones who I noticed didn't do this in mass were Christian Africans. They are some of the most patriotic Americans out there... But I never met a Thai person who lived in America who said they were American first. This was 2015.

a search on AI says

There’s no official top ten list or recent poll ranking foreign nationalities that Thai people find undesirable overall. Opinions vary a lot, but from online discussions, forums, and anecdotal reports, common complaints about tourists (not all individuals, just stereotypes of bad behavior) often point to these groups:

1. Chinese – loud, rude manners, cutting queues (big issue pre-COVID when numbers were huge).

2. Indian – haggling too hard, scamming perceptions, or group behaviors seen as pushy.

3. Russian – especially in Phuket, complaints about rowdy or entitled attitudes post-Ukraine war influx.

4. Arab/Middle Eastern – sometimes linked to strict demeanor or cultural clashes in tourist spots.

5. Cambodian – more about neighboring rivalry than tourism.

Beyond that, it’s scattered – some mention (backpacker stereotypes), drunk Westerners

So there is no top ten.

I read it here and there many times before. I do not remember exactly but it was a pool to Thai people. Cambodians are not in that list, because it was about tourists. Top 5 was similar to what you wrote. but not cambodians in top 5. UK and USA were top 6 or 7 or so. That is what I remember. Maybe, here some people also still remember that. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚PS) oh I remember! Israelies are in top 5 too! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Here's a fun game I like to play with morons like you.

I can say "all the pedos, abusers and rapists should be investigated, tried, and jailed regardless of office or political affiliation."

Now let's all gather and watch you try to dance enough so we won't notice you can't say that!šŸ‘€

Let's see it bubba, can you say that simple sentence?

All 12 times Clinton is mentioned, he is there unredacted for everyone to see. Trump made sure of that. And yet thousands of lines of redaction persist- who would be protected under those lines of redactment? Not Democrats. It doesn’t take a genius to know that is all Trump in there. If he was innocent, he would insist that all of the files get published to clear his name. That’s what innocent people do. Guilty people with power insist on covering their felonious deeds. That’s what he is doing.
