TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent inquiry at Jomtien immigration about extending a DTV 6-month entry stamp yielded no clear answers. Comments reveal that because the visa is relatively new, extensions may not be familiar to the immigration staff yet. Discussion centers on the expected extension fee, with mixed opinions suggesting it could either be 1,900 baht or as high as 10,000 baht, despite some confirming 1,900 baht as per government statements. Questions about the necessity for proof of school or financial means for extensions and re-entries have raised concerns among expats, but the general consensus is that no proof will be needed for re-entries after obtaining the visa.
The Royal Gazette announcement states they can ask for proof of the financials again for extensions but makes no mention of this for re-entries. Re-entries it just says they are unlimited for the life of the visa 180 days a time but not beyond the end date of the visa (so it is 5 years, not 5.5 or 6).
This is also what the MFA deputy director general said in Chris's RW4U interview: immigration may ask for proof of the same documentation used to get the visa for in country extensions but for re-entries all that is needed is the passport and visa. He was quite clear on that point, that they won't be asking for proof of anything for re-entries.
I am aware that the MFA and immigration are different departments. However:
(1) Royal Gazette announcement specifically says requirements need to be shown (a) applying for visa (b) for extensions, but not for entry and says entries are unlimited;
(2) Deputy director-general of the MFA has stated that requirements may need to be shown to immigration for extensions (as they are separate and they will determine that) but not for entry, once you have the visa only need passport and visa for unlimited entries in five years;
(3) People have the visa already and have entered with it and no-one has reported needing to show requirements again to immigration on entry;
(4) Other visas it's the same, you need to show to get the visa and for extensions but you do not need to show on each entry.
I'll take all this as indicative of how it's going to work over random farangs on Facebook and their ideas.
the DTV doesn't have a specific tax exemption like the LTR does so it's the same as staying over 180 days with any other visa.

This visa doesn't apply to me at all, but I am interested as to what happens with extensions and border runs. Will the soft option people be again required to provide proof of school or whatnot again? Only time will tell. I wouldn't have jumped so quickly on it myself, but time will tell.
Said MFA (ministry of Foreign affairs). On many different cases, Immigration, which belongs to Royal Thai police and which decides of your entry - or not - , says different than MFA..
yes, he specifically said for an in-country extension, requirements would be up to immigration and they may want the same material again, but not for entry. This is the norm for any other multi-entry visa, and it's also what was published in the Royal Gazette.

Everyone rushed to get it like sheep ----- you may pay the price yet
that is the price all news outlets wrote.. That doesn't mean it's true though. It would be very weird if this would be the only extension that cost more than the 1900 baht *all* other extensions cost.
I have a hard time thinking otherwise too. 1900 unless they change the cost of all extensions. At some point that might happen. But not from 1.900 to 10.000.
the MfA deputy said the extension would be 1900.- THB. Although MfA and Immigration are different ministries, It would surprise me if Immigration would charge 10,000.- THB for a simple extension
You are correct. The MFA sell the visas. Immigration set the policy for extensions. We have been reliably informed that the extension cost is 10,000 baht.
Obviously no one is nearly close to needing one so it remains to be seen if things will change in the mean time.
I understand we are in Thailand but this is a government office who services foreigners exclusively. A rudimentary knowledge of English is not an unreasonable request.
Oh wow! Definitely don’t assume the immigration officer knows English. In 6 years of going to Bangkok immigration they barely spoke a word to me except one senior officer once that spoke barely passable English.
I now have an LTR and it is a completely different experience at the Thailand Board of Investment office. Everyone I talk to there speaks almost fluent English. The dream come true!

I would not be surprised to hear that in 6 months' time they still don't know. The PM whose baby this all was got panned yesterday.
I watched the news today about that. She has a busy schedule but maybe DTV will be on her desk. Her father was PM too and will use his advise. I don’t know his opinion on visas. But with change today it possible we see changes. Do they always grandfather the existing DTV visas or could they eliminate or put new rules even for existing holders.
I think they are making it up as they go along, even by accident they will change the rules, i have not heard anything about 90 day reporting and I guarantee they have not informed immigration on this issue and off course income tax. I see also many issues like setting up branch offices without even knowing it and even Thai sales tax, for those operating companies oversea the issue of corporation tax on dividends. For those who do not pay tax I would not be suprised to hesr when they get vack home, they get a tax bill there.
I saw a post this morning of someone who got a DTV from the UK consulate by having a few dentist appointments (Invisalign) and a letter from the dentist.
. Can you confirm if dtv 💯 need to do 90 day report? Again, nobody has reached that time in the visa yet so curious what your thoughts are. I just received my dtv, I'm thrilled ha
I have heard there is no 90 day reporting on DTV. I also heard they are getting rid of it completely in September/October. That's from an immigration officer friend.
there is no exemption for the 90 day report. The only visa that has an exemption to this is the LTR to 1 year reporting. Before they get rid of 90 day reporting hell is going to freeze there is no way
there's no exemption from 90 day reporting, so you'd have to do it. Generally though it doesn't matter if you do or don't, unless you need something from immigration in country, that's when it comes up. It's not checked at the airports/borders. So if you never plan to extend but just come and go might not be so critical. Personally I'd do it though.
I would say go do a 90 day report (if you are here a continuous 90 days) and if you don’t need to do it then they will tell you and you will know what to do for the next 5 years. Alternatively you could ignore it and pay the fine if you get caught.
