I have seen different answers to this question so I thought I would ask if anyone here knows.

To renew your DTV visa after you have stayed 180 days, does it cost the normal renew fee of 1900THB or does it cost the full 10000BHT application fee to renew it again each time?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The renewal fee for the DTV visa after staying 180 days in Thailand is currently unclear, with reports suggesting it could be either 1900 THB or 10,000 THB depending on the local immigration office. While some sources like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicate it should be 1900 THB, certain immigration offices in areas like Phuket are charging 10,000 THB. Since the DTV visa is a new category, responses vary, and applicants are advised to check with their local immigration office closer to the time of renewal for accurate information.

That is why we are asking questions here to find out more about it. This is still a fairly new visa and I’m sure a lot of the people asking questions didn’t rush to get the DTV visa but are just trying to find out more about it.

You don't "renew", you extend. Chaengwatthana immigration office in Bangkok will charge 1900 baht. Apparently from other reports Phuket will be charging 10,000 baht

@Andy ***********
My guess is that Bangkok don’t know the requirements as yet and are just assuming 1,900 baht. We will have to wait and see.
Andy ************
@Stuart ********
Yep. We'll see. 10,000 baht for a 180 day extension, when you get 365 days for 1900 baht on other visas! 😂😂😂
Brandon ************
@Andy ***********
and you pay 1900 baht for 30 days on other visas. Your argument doesn't really hold weight to this specific instance.
Andy ************
@Brandon ***********
Fact remains all extensions are 1900 baht. It seems only those who are against this visa are trying to throw negativity on it. Thousands are being issued and it's here to stay, so I think the naysayers just have to get used to it. I've enquired at CW and the head honcho there said it's 1900 baht.

As I mentioned in my reply, this person is from the MFA. The MFA has absolutely NOTHING to do with extensions in Thailand. It's a completely different government agency. So what is said in this video means nothing.

I think he also said that visa cost is
*****
thb. But that's not true, even embassy is MFA...
Brandon ************
@Максим *********
it's technically true. But each embassy gets to set their own exchange rate. The embassies that accept THB only charge 10,000 baht.
Maksym ***********
@Brandon ***********
that only their good will. Norway made it 10k in equivalent. And this is what they can control... Not extension fee :)

I asked this specific question at Jomtien immigration and the answer I got was “Sorry Mister no have answer “

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs it will be 1900B as with other extensions but let's wait until Immigration decide what to charge
Brandon ************
Honestly, no one really knows. Not even immigration seems to know.

The MFA said it will be 1900 baht, but the MFA has no control over extensions, that is the immigration department.

Phuket immigration has specifically said that it will be 10,000 baht and told that to all their staff and volunteers.

Others have reported asking their local immigration office and were told 1900 baht.

We're still 2-3 months out from the first possible extensions of the DTV, so we likely won't have any clarity until then. It's actually possible it might come down to the local immigration office and at some it is 1900 and at others it is 10,000.

Just keep an eye on the situation, and you always have the option of doing a border bounce and getting a fresh 180 day stamp.

@Brandon ***********
I suppose that is true, we just have to wait and see.if you do a border bounce after 180 days won’t you have to pay the renew fee?
Brandon ************
@Jared ******
no, you're not extending anything. You're just getting a new entry stamp. The DTV is multiple entry which means you get a new 180 day stamp each and every time you enter Thailand.
Tim ***********
@Brandon ***********
No, this is incorrect info. If you DON'T want to leave Thailand after 180 days you must get an extension at your local immigration office. This will come with a charge. The other option is to leave prior to 180 days and get a new 180 day stamp. The extension at immigration is to get 180 + 180 without leaving. You can extend only 1 time year.
Luit *****************
@Tim **********
Extension is not limited to 1 time a year, but to 1 time per entry.

In a lot of situations that will be 1 time a year, but not always.
Tim ***********
@Luit ****************
Yes I know that's correct, I just worded it wrong. If you extend once after entering it will give you a total of 360 days in Thailand but not specific to a calendar year.
Luit *****************
@Tim **********
There is no rule that with an extension you should stay full 180 days of it, you can also leave after a short time and get back after short trip. That way you can get more extensions in a 1 year period.

Sometimes it seems here everybody wants to stay as long as possible in Thailand, but a digital nomad will travel, and possible never need an extension at all.
Tim ***********
@Luit ****************
Yes, but those are not called extensions. I think you are misunderstanding what is meant by an extension. An extension is done only at immigration after 180 days and you DON'T want to leave. You can go to your immigration and get 180 days extension to equal 360 days of stay in Thailand in total. Then you will have to leave and come back and get a new 180 day stay. Of course you can leave before the first 180 days, come back and get another 180 but that is not an extension, that's just an entry. Its a multi entry visa so you can come and go as many times as you want as long as you don't stay longer than 180 without either leaving or getting an extension at immigration.
Luit *****************
@Tim **********
I do understand the difference between entry and extension, just read my post.

That is why I tell you might never need an extension, so I am not misunderstanding anything.

I just wanted to explain there are situations you might need 2 extensions within 1 year.

When you want to stay 190 days, then leave for 5 days and then again want to stay over 180 days.

In that case you need the first extention before you leave, and only use 10 days. When you get back in after 5 days you will get 180 day entry, after that you will need extention again, only 195 days after the first extension.

Maybe you should plan your trips outside a bit different, but a real digital nomad plans his trips according his business and not according dates of entries or extensions expiring.
Tim ***********
@Luit ****************
I can't find your original reply but Facebook comments can sometimes be misinterpreted but from what you are saying, that is absolutely correct. A bit hard to count in my head but yes, technically you could have 2 extensions within 1 year. But I look at it as the clock started the day you first entered on the DTV so the first extension is after 180 days and then 2nd extension is after 195 days so in that total its 2 extensions in a total of 375 days.
Brandon ************
@Tim **********
nothing I've said is incorrect. I specifically said you can apply for an extension but no one knows the price, or you can do a border bounce for a new 180 day stamp.
Tim ***********
@Brandon ***********
sorry, I think I replied to the wrong comment. I meant tag
@Jared ******
where he was asking about paying a fee by re-entering.
Jared *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Brandon ***********
So when do you actually have to pay the extension fee?
Tim ***********
@Jared ******
after 180 days if you want to extend. Or just leave the country and re-enter for free. Its a multi entry day but you have to leave before 180 days or get an extension
Milan ********
@Jared ******
if you want extend stay at local immigration for another 180 days
Jared *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Milan *******
So if you just do a boarder bounce somewhere near by and just come back in you don’t have to pay the extension fee because you are not extending you will be getting a new stamp when you come back in right?
Bob **********
@Jared ******
it’ll cost you more than 1900 baht to bounce
Luit *****************
@Bob *********
That depends on where you stay...
Ivan ************
@B**
the larger issue is not having to show the 500k and possibly other proofs again
Bob **********
@Ivan ***********
from what I’m hearing you’ll need to show the 500k anytime you extend or re enter and a new itinerary on what you’ll be doing ,cooking,ect your not going to re enter Thailand for 5 years on a 6 month course
Ivan ************
@Bob *********
you don't need to show anything except the visa on re-entry. MFA were very clear on this, it's how other visas work and we already have people who have re-entered and confirmed they didn't have to show anything. It's a five year multi-entry visa.
Brandon ************
@Ivan ***********
MFA also doesn't control entry, that's immigration. They can add requirements if they see fit in the future.
Ivan ************
@Bra****
no, but MFA were quite confident of this and it's how other multi entry visas work, they don't require proof again at the point of entry. Several people have already re-entered second or third time on DTV and all of them have been stamped in with no questions. Anything could happen in the future but all indications are they are not requiring anything on entry but the visa.
Bob **********
@Ivan ***********
you’ll see wait for your extension if you think Thailand is going to give you 5 years for a 3 month cooking class you don’t know Thailand very well
Ivan ************
@Bob *********
MFA have stated extensions will probably require showing proof of the 500k again; it's up to immigration. The visa though is a multi-entry 5 year visa and doesn't require any proof to enter, this is how multi-entry visas work. MFA have stated that and people have already re-entered a second time and confirmed they didn't need to show anything.
