Question about the new DTV Visa. It is a five year Visa It is good for 180 days at a time. You can then extend for 180 days. Then you have to leave the country. Can you then immediate reenter the country for another 180+180?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV Visa allows multiple entries with each stay valid for 180 days, which can then be extended for another 180 days at a cost of 10,000 baht. After this period, the holder must leave the country and can immediately reenter for another 180 days, effectively allowing a cycle of 180+180 days of stay upon reentry. However, there are discussions regarding the requirements for funds and the exact costs associated with extensions. The community is divided on various aspects of the visa's implementation and requirements.
All the literature suggests that the 500k is for the initial application only, where do you get this from, bank statement checks at airport immigration, really?
if you bounce at 180, your term is up. You will need to visit immigration to pay 10k for a 180 day extension. And then congrats, you officially become a Thailand taxpayer
Nowhere on any government website does it say extensions are 10,000 baht. But I'm talking border bouncing - no need to even visit immigration. A bit like the OA which was two years, but the DTV is five years. A border bounce is NOT an extension. And the DTV is multi-entry for five years. It's a no brainer. I won't be transferring money into Thailand so there's no tax to pay anyway.
it clearly states the extension is 10k baht and requires a visit to Thai immigration.
Lol mate… you are way out of your league. The DTV will cost 100,000 for 5 years. The LTR is 50k for 10’years. You understand which is better right? One of them is tax free. One isn’t. You can guess which one right?! One of them required renewal every 180’days and to exit the country every year. Guess which one? One of them offers fast track services at every airport and no 90 day reporting… guess which one?!
I already said I'll be bouncing at the 180 day mark, and I'm sure most other people will probably too. I doubt the extension will be 10,000 baht, it'll be the same as others at 1,900 baht. But for me the convenience of Chong Mek is a done deal. I think the LTR is a dead duck now
Someone posted this one earlier. This is from the London Embassy which is charging £300 which is similar to the Australian price. People are already whining, but Jesus! It's bloody cheap for what it is and what it offers. It's FIVE YEARS for heaven's sake. What's wrong with these people?
Not from Siam Legal. They often get things wrong. I'll stick with the info from the MFA and the Canberra Embassy. But I wouldn't be using the extension anyway. Easier for me to do the bounce every six months. And yes I'm on a non-O but that's getting the flick when I go back to Australia in a couple of months. The DTV is most definitely for me. 10,000 baht for five years, no need for the

monthly transfers, no need for expensive health insurance, no need to visit immigration. It's the best news for years in Thailand visas. A game changer. The only downside, it'll encourage a lot of deadbeats to come live in Thailand, but that's life
look at that. 600 AUD or 14,500 baht. No Aussie even has one yet and the price is up 45%. Nice. And yes, as it states, you can obtain a 180 day extension at Thai immigration. For a small fee of only 10k baht. Have you completely your application already?!
this cartoon is not an infographic. And if there is any door opening, it’s extremely unlikely to happen like this. If there is - fantastic. Hope you have invested in real estate here already. It’s gonna go ballistic
I don't think so. The infographic clearly says 180 days per ENTRY. Yes it might change, but somehow I can't see it. This new government is opening the doors, it's years overdue
what are you feeling insulted about Andy? A little too much entitled sensitivity perhaps. I think you will find they haven’t opened the door at all. And if they have, they are doing a historically bad job of marketing what would be the cheapest, easiest, best visa option on earth. I hope your mini dream here comes true. But I would be emotionally prepared for some hard reality
It's all good. Normally when someone resorts to insults it means they're not happy with what they're hearing. I think you'll find the Thai Government has just opened the door to anyone who wants to be here for five years and bring their family with them. No need for Thai bank account, no need for insurance, no need to visit immigration. 180 days each time you bounce. It's a dream come true for retirees. No more exacting conditions to meet. Thank you Thailand
it’s not an extension. You can renew it once, for 180 days. At a cost of another 10k baht. Then you must leave the country to a day. I hope you clean up your pants but it you honestly think Thailand has just given a 5 year residency visa to the dregs of society for $280 USD, you are in for some surprises. But hey, we can dream
All extensions are 1900 baht. The 10,000 is the visa fee. The visa lasts for five years. Border bounce it's free, extend at immigration is 1900 baht. I'll be bouncing, because twice a year I endure the "visit the in-laws" trip way out east. The Chong Mek border is only 30 mins drive. This visa is brilliant. Overnight the non-O, OA, OX, LTR have been made redundant. Five years and no requirement to visit immigration. I'm so excited I almost wet my pants! 😆😲😲
lol. Can you point out the 1900 baht extension you are dreaming of? I like this cute cartoon as much as you… but your interpretation is pure dreamland
You're wrong. You can keep bouncing. Each entry is 180 days. The extensions are 1900baht. The 10,000 baht is for the 5-year visa, not the extension. The visa is 5-year multi-entry, you don't pay anything when re-entering. It's a total beauty. I'm off the non-O and onto this brilliant new visa
each 180 day entry will expire in 180 days. Each entry won’t get you a new 180. It’s doesn’t change the 180 at all. And every 180 you will pay another 10k.
Stay away from immigration and just border bounce for five years. Get 180 days each time you re-enter. Works out at 2000 baht a year. Cheap as chips. Just have to show 500k in your overseas bank account. It's ok to call it a residency visa because that's exactly what it is.
if it is… ur right - it’s a beauty. In fact maybe the best and easiest residency visa in the world. Without calling it a residency visa. But I read it as 10,000 for every 180 days. And you will need to visit immigration every 180
This is the new retirement visa. 10,000 THB for five years, no need to visit immigration. This is a little beauty. I'm switching from non-O. With no Thailand financial requirements, it'll be putting visa agents out of business!

I WAS WRONGLY INFORMED
I've just been reliably informed that it's unlimited entry on the new 60 day Visa exempt.
It does not come under the entry rules for two times at a land border.
The 60 day is unlimited entry from any port or land border.
interesting but dont see how that works for malaysians and other asean countries who make multiple short trips every year. I know quite a few malaysians and singaporeans who come for weekends quite often. I really dont see them killing that market unless they make it different for Asean members.
music festivals, sport training, seminars, Thai cooking classes, etc. These are all pretty general activities. Do they specify for these, like the music festival one? What’s that all about?? You just have to prove you’re involved in one of these? Ahhh so many questions 🤣
OK. So do I avoid becoming a Tax Resident by leaving and coming back before 180 days? Or do I become a tax resident by staying for more than 180 days cumulatively?
it says visa fee it doesn't say entry fee or extension fee. And no, all multi entry visas don't work that way. The METV is one time $200 visa fee and 1900 baht for each extension. not pay the "visa fee" for each extension. While not clear, the DTV appears to be the same approach. A one time visa fee of ~10,000 baht ( but in reality that actually varies by consulate location and country) and zero mention of an extension fee in the documents.
While I value your knowledge on most posts, I read the document differently. The extension fee is NOT listed on the documents nor in the gazette.
not my understanding. Where have you got that from ? It is certainly not in the announcement or anything else issued that I have seen. They simply say you can do a 180d extension per year (so in total can stay for 360 days in a year), so it has been assumed as they do not refer to any new extension fee, that it is the same as all extensions at the moment - 1900 baht.
This is Thailand 🥳 still money for the border run industry 😂😂😂

No, not avaiable inside Thailand.

Don’t forget the 500.000 Baht requirement for DTV, but it is not known precisely, if your account should be in Thailand of abroad, or if you need to keep the money in the bank or for how long.
yeh I know that. But I mean if you just did border runs every 180 days then you’d never need to pay the 10k extension fee which makes zero sense 😂
